Demon Slayer features several central characters, each of whom is fascinating and engrosses us with their stories. Among them, Inosuke is one such member of the main cast who initially just seemed to be straightforward but is soon revealed to have a complex history. His nature and development through the series have made him a fan-favorite character. So, who is Inosuke in Demon Slayer?

Inosuke is a close friend of Tanjiro and Zenitsu who uses the Beast Breathing Combat Style. He has had a major presence in every arc, constantly growing before it all culminates in the final battle against Muzan’s forces. Let us take a closer look at this character.

Who Is Inosuke in Demon Slayer?

During his introduction, Inosuke was a short-tempered and prideful man who wished to jump into battle whenever given the chance. He cared little about his opponent’s danger, facing them for the sake of gaining honor and recognition.

Having been raised by boars, Inosuke never understood the intricacies of human interaction and blurted out whatever came to mind. He had a rough appearance despite his beautiful features, exhibiting animalistic behavior.

However, as the series proceeds, Inosuke is influenced by Tanjiro’s presence. He pays more mind to those around him, becoming more compassionate and selfless. He thinks before taking action and gets close to the likes of Zenitsu, who he hated earlier.

This is not to say that Inosuke completely loses his original persona. He is still proud and can lose his temper when provoked, as seen in his battle with Doma. Nevertheless, the balance between his sense of camaraderie and his commitment to growing stronger has made him a highlight of the series.

Inosuke’s Strengths and Abilities

Since Inosuke enjoys fighting all kinds of opponents, he has gained a lot of skills and experience. This makes him a powerful individual who can put up a great fight against the most proficient opponents in the series.

It is not an overstatement to call him a genius, since he developed his own breathing style—Beast Breathing. Derived from Wind Breathing, this lets him mimic wild animals and use unorthodox, unpredictable attacks. This technique incorporates his raw power into various stances, adapting to different situations.

Giving his moves the name of “Fangs,” Inosuke uses 10 Fangs as well as a sudden throwing strike. These consist of a variety of offensive maneuvers through slashing and stabbing with both blades. He also uses techniques requiring more expertise such as spatial awareness, where he can analyze the position and weaknesses of enemies over a wide area.

Inosuke has very impressive physical traits, capable of great flexibility and rearranging his joints for amplified power. He is fast enough to keep up with Doma’s speed and durable enough to withstand direct hits from powerful demons.

Hence, his self-learned abilities combined with his physique provide him the edge against his opponents’ traditional form of fighting.

Inosuke’s Connection to Doma

While Inosuke had majorly been a hyperactive comedic character in Demon Slayer, this changed during the Infinity Castle Arc. In his battle against Doma, the Upper-Rank Demon revealed the twisted relationship he shared with Inosuke.

This dates back to Inosuke’s infancy when his mother Kotoha had run away along with him from an abusive home. She found refuge in Doma’s cult only to discover the terrifying truth that Doma was eating his followers. Realizing that she couldn’t truly escape, she tried saving her son by dropping him off a cliff. Soon after, Doma ended her life and ate her.

This was how Inosuke was raised in the wilderness, in the midst of boars. Inosuke himself did not realize this for a long time, but each of Doma’s words brought back memories of his mother and the song she sang. This enraged Inosuke, significantly raising the stakes of his battle against Doma.

What Is Inosuke’s Final Fate in Demon Slayer?

Inosuke’s standout moment in the final battles of Demon Slayer came when he worked with Kanao to kill Doma. Infuriated by his past and his mother’s demise, he assisted Kanao’s blade, which was close to slicing the villain with his Beast Breathing: Sudden Throwing Knives. This beheaded him, causing Inosuke to have finally avenged his mother.

Later in the battle against Muzan, Inosuke joined the Demon Slayers and was instrumental in the Demon King’s defeat. His relentless fighting style was even able to take the main antagonist by surprise. With their combined efforts, gradually wearing down Muzan, he died at the end of the arc.

Following this, Inosuke is visibly shaken by Tanjiro’s demonic transformation, trying to beat him down and bring him back. Despite his failed attempts only accelerating the protagonist’s change, Tanjiro’s humanity is restored soon due to his own willpower and the Demon Slayers’ efforts to cure him.

After all the chaotic events, Inosuke, Tanjiro, and Zenitsu all live together happily. Inosuke marries Aoi Kanzaki and has descendants who carry on his name.

Conclusion

Inosuke Hashibira is one of the most unique and well-loved characters in Demon Slayer, thanks to his distinct fighting style, personality, and character development. From his tragic upbringing to his eventual role as a valuable member of the Demon Slayer Corps, Inosuke’s journey is one of perseverance, growth, and emotional depth.
