Pick up the trail of The Golden Teppo by completing the Searching Sakai mission in Assassin’s Creed Shadows with the help of this guide.
Searching Sakai is an Onryo mission for Naoe in Assassin’s Creed Shadows that becomes available following the From Spark to Flame quest. Driven by revenge, she is looking for the masked woman dubbed The Golden Teppo because of the gold-gilded gun she wields. A weapon like hers is rare, and you must first seek out gunsmiths in Sakai to track her through the golden gun. The mission will reward you with 1000 XP and lead you to the Tea Ceremony, Dress for Success, and The Perfect Gift missions.
How To Complete Searching Sakai in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
As you begin Searching Sakai from the Hideout, you will be given the following information:
- Sakai is in western Settsu.
- The gunsmiths are in central Sakai.
- They are in the Firearm District.
To find the gunsmiths, you must venture to the eastern part of central Sakai which houses the Firearm District. You can pinpoint their exact location by using a scout in the area. The gunsmiths stand along the main street in the Firearm District, and you can speak with the ones with a blue marker above their heads.
However, the two you are looking for will be at the end of the street and to the right, speaking among themselves in a courtyard. Take cover nearby and eavesdrop on them using observation (right-click for PC).
Talking to the Gunsmiths
After overhearing the gunsmiths’ conversation, approach them to ask about the counterfeit contracts. Regardless of the dialogue options you pick, you will need to kill them and retrieve the letters from their bodies. They will attempt to extort you, demanding money for the contracts, but will get greedy and send bandits after Naoe if you pay the bribe. If you choose hostile dialogue options, they will run away, forcing you to chase them down. There is no way to resolve the situation diplomatically.
The simplest path forward is to choose the following options:
- My name is not important > We can do this the hard way.
The gunsmiths will run and you can easily chase them down, assassinate them, and get the counterfeit contracts.
Meeting Imai Sokun
Next, you will have to speak with Imai Sokun posing as a trader. The game will provide hints about his whereabouts, telling you that he is in:
- Western Settsu.
- Southwestern Sakai.
Follow the marked location in the image above, and you will find Imai Sokun. Use the observation tool when you get close, and his whereabouts will be pinpointed. Approaching Imai Sokun will trigger a cutscene with Naoe attempting to talk her way into Sokun’s affluent circle to find The Golden Teppo.
You can choose any dialogue options while speaking with Imai Sokunm, and they will not affect the mission’s outcome. However, remember which name you have chosen for Imai Sokun, as you will use it in the upcoming missions.
