Baldur’s Gate 3 features extensive customization options, including race, appearance, class, and abilities. This allows players a highly personalized gameplay experience. Beyond character customization options, the game also lets you customize the Die. Since skill checks are a frequent part of Baldur’s Gate 3, you will often find yourself at the dice roll screen, staring at the default die.

Although dice skins are purely cosmetic, they allow you to change the design and look of the dice that appear throughout the story. However, you cannot change your dice appearance at any time—they can only be customized during specific encounters. Find out how to customize die skins in Baldur’s Gate 3.

You can only change your dice skins during the dice roll screen. This typically occurs during skill checks, such as lock-picking attempts or during certain conversations. If you want to change the appearance, you need to act before rolling the dice. Once you get past the die rolling screen, you need to wait for the next skill check to change it again.

During the die rolling screen, you will find the ‘Customize Dice’ option. You can access the option by clicking the cog-wheel icon in the bottom left corner of the screen on PC or by pressing L3 on consoles. This displays the available Dice skins, allowing you to choose your desired one from them. Once you select a skin, your die’s appearance will change and remain the same until you change it again.

While the Scuffed Metal skin is available by default for everyone, Larian Studios made the Behir Blue skin available to all players via the Hotfix #3. Moreover, purchasing the Digital Deluxe edition grants exclusive skins for different platforms as follows:

  • Dragonflame Red (PC)
  • Prismatic Spray (PlayStation)
  • Xanathar’s Barter (Xbox)

The Illithid Purple skin is exclusively available to the owners of the Physical Collector’s edition. For even more customization options, you can also install mods such as Dice Set Expansion and Custom Dice.
