Drinking alcohol or throwing alcohol bottles applies the Drunk (Alcohol) condition in Baldur’s Gate 3. This gives the consumer or target a Disadvantage on Dexterity and Charisma checks. Players usually avoid drinking alcohol in the game because of its debuffing effect, and the bottles of liquor a party gathers while adventuring primarily serve as camp supplies.

However, with the addition of the Way of the Drunken Master Monk subclass in Patch 8, alcoholic beverages have become a resource for their Ki replenishment. Once per long rest, a Drunken Master can drink a bottle of alcohol using a bonus action to regain half their Ki. The best part, they suffer none of the usual debuffs. Furthermore, equipment such as Amulet of the Drunkard, Punch-Drunk Bastard, and Drunken Cloth provide buffs when the user is under the Drunk condition. Therefore, players may find themselves needing to stock up on drinks for their Drunken Master build.

You can reliably buy alcohol from a few merchants in the game who run inns and bars. Unfortunately, most of these traders are found in Act 3 of the game, leaving looting as the primary source to obtain alcohol in Acts 1 and 2. In Act 1, Roah Moonglow, inside the Goblin Camp, sells a bottle of Chultan Fireswill.

Additionally, you can find a stash of liquor bottles in the Zhentarim Basement, next to the trader, Brem. Kept on or beside the crates, you can find three Carafes of Wine, one Syl-Pashan Sup, and one Esmeltar Red. However, you will have to steal them when no one is looking since Brem does not sell any alcoholic beverages himself. Be careful if you start a fight over them since any fire attacks near the oil on the ground can cause the entire stash to erupt.

Most traders who sell alcohol can be found in Act 3. These include Hoots Hooligan in Sharess’ Caress, Bosun Gannet in The Blushing Mermaid, Tender Henk in The Singing Lute, and Alan Alyth in Elfsong Tavern.

All of them can also be thrown to create a flammable surface. The main difference between different varieties of alcohol is their cost and how many units of camp supplies they provide. Depending on the purchasing character’s Charisma, they can buy most alcoholic drinks for anywhere between 1 and 34 gold pieces. With such low costs, you’ll want to stock up on any alcohol a merchant is selling, especially for a Drunken Master.

If you still wish to buy nothing but the best, the following drinks providing the highest amount of camp supplies (6) of any alcoholic beverages: Arabellan Dry, Baalor Ale, Baldur’s Grape, Barrel-Aged Callidyrran, Gulthmeran Reserve, Highsun Liqueur, Marsember Ice Wine, Mermaid Whiskey, and Purple Dragon Blush.
