Saving Solas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is possible, but you’ll need help from the Inquisitor to achieve this feat.
If you’ve played Dragon Age: Inquisition, you’ll remember Solas as your companion. However, this character also serves as the primary antagonist in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. That said, there are times during the game when you will have to rely on Solas’ assistance to progress through. If Solas’ story intrigued you and you wanted to save him, the Inquisitor might just be able to help you out.
It is possible to save Solas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. And doing so also leads to a secret ending in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. To achieve this, you must rely on the Inquisitor and make some key choices. In this article, we will explain how you can save Solas and perhaps offer him a chance at redemption.
How to Save Solas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Here are the steps you need to follow to save Solas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard:
- Customize the World State with specific options for the Inquisitor and the ending of Dragon Age: The Inquisition.
- Meet the Inquisitor and ensure she is willing to reunite with Solas.
- Obtain Mythal’s Essence by completing the quest Regrets of the Dread Wolf.
- Use Mythal’s Essence while confronting Solas at the end.
Solas’ objective in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is to tear the veil altogether. During the last section of the game, normally there would be only two options — fight him or to trick him. However, a third option will also pop up, and this relates directly to the Inquisitor if you have done some specific actions before.
Customize The World State With Specific Options for The Inquisitor and The Ending of Dragon Age: The Inquisition
When you start Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you must customize certain choices that pertain to the previous game, Inquisition. In particular, you’ll have to choose certain aspects of the Inquisitor as well. Here are the options you absolutely must choose if you want to save Solas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard:
- Make sure the Inquisitor is a female elf.
- Choose the option “Romanced Solas” when it comes to the Inquisitor’s romantic inclination.
- Choose the option “The Hidden God” to vow and save Solas.
These choices will not have any major effect on the overall flow of the game. Eventually, Rook will have a chance to meet with the Inquisitor. The appearance and dialogue choices here will depend on how you customize this character at the beginning of Veilguard’s campaign.
Meet the Inquisitor and Ensure She Wants to Reunite With Solas
At one point during your conversation with the Inquisitor, her romantic relations with Solas will come up. There will be four options:
- You deserve happiness.
- You were good for him.
- He’s not good for you.
- He wouldn’t want that for you.
Select either 1 or 2 from the list above to make the Inquisitor reunite with Solas and save him in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
Obtain Mythal’s Essence From The Regrets of The Dread Wolf Quest
To save Solas, complete the Regrets of the Dread Wolf quest that will have you hunting for several small wolf statuettes in the Crossroads. After you collect all of them, talk with Morrigan who will reveal a secret pathway amid the snow that leads to a fragment of Mythal, the Goddess.
Here, you’ll have to convince Mythal without fighting her to obtain the essence. If you choose the right responses, she will release Solas from her service and will not change into her dragon form. You will get Mythal’s essence, and it will save you from an annoying Level 45 boss fight.
Use Mythal’s Essence While Confronting Solas at The End
If you’ve completed all the above correctly, a third choice should appear under the “more” tab while confronting Solas, which reads “You don’t have to do this.” The Mythal’s essence will be enough to convince Solas, who will then want to sacrifice himself into the Veil instead.
However, since the Inquisitor romanced Solas in Dragon Age: Inquisition, the two will share a kiss at this moment, and both will gradually vanish into the veil together. This is generally considered to be the best and secret ending for Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
