In this guide, we shall go over how to beat Francois in the Esquie’s Nest section of Clair Obscur Expedition 33.
Clair Obscur Expedition 33 sets you off on a journey to stop the Paintress and her gommage once and for all. Your journey to do so begins at the Continent but gets off to the worst possible start at the hands of Renoir. Your entire party is left scrambled and bruised. As you go about the land scrambling and finding ways to stop the Paintress once and for all, you run into Esquie. This gentle giant has the means to swim and take you to the monolith, but he just needs his special little rock to do so. The catch – the rock is with his neighbor Francois.
As you go about to request Francois for his rock, he throws a fit, kicking off an entirely unexpected boss fight. Francois is a turtle (or at least he claims to be) and brings forth a perfect blend of attack and defense. Beating this boss is no easy task, but one that must be done if you wish to stop the Paintress. If you’re struggling to beat Francois and retrieve Esquie’s special rock, we’re here to help. Francois is weak to Dark-based attacks, so we highly recommend incorporating Sciel into your party. Her Dark-based attacks deal a chunk of damage while also applying Foretell. You can then consume the Foretell to amplify the damage and wreak havoc on the boss.
Francois also has a plethora of shields. You will need Maelle and her Breaking Rules ability to break through the turtle’s defense and deal damage. In case you don’t have the ability yet, try to use attacks with a greater number of hits to break through.
As far as attacks go, the boss only has one that it uses – the Strongest Ice Attack Ever. The boss shoots a lethal ice beam that can one-shot you if you don’t have HP leveled all the way up. The boss glows twice before shooting the beam, so press the parry button right after the second glow to parry the attack. Use Dark-based damage and counterattacks to defeat Francois.
