As you proceed further and further into the game, Clair Obscur Expedition 33 keeps throwing more challenging foes your way. And, if you want to have any hopes of taking them down, you’ll need to constantly upgrade the weapons your party members wield. However, you can’t just upgrade your gear at any time.
You’ll need to head back to Camp and let the Curator upgrade them for you. But even the Curator won’t be able to do so if you don’t have sufficient quantities of Chroma Catalysts with you. In this piece, we’ll explain how you can get Chroma Catalysts in Clair Obscur Expedition 33 and how to use these items.
How To Get Chroma Catalysts in Clair Obscur Expedition 33?
There are several ways to get Chroma Catalysts in the game. Let’s see what they are.
- Dropped by enemies: After defeating any enemy, the screen signals the end of the battle by displaying the ‘Battle Loot’ section. This section lists the items that you received from defeating a particular foe. Amongst the loot, you might find Chroma Catalysts.
- Looted from the ground: Always make sure to check the ground for loot while you’re out exploring. You can find a variety of items this way, one of which is the Chroma Catalysts. If you spot pink-shaded loot on the ground, there’s a very good chance that it’s a Chroma Catalyst.
- Buy from shops: Although quite costly, you can still buy Chroma Catalysts from vendors. It’s a wise investment because you always want to keep your weapons as upgraded as possible.

How To Use Chroma Catalysts in Clair Obscur Expedition 33
As we said before, Chroma Catalysts will help you upgrade your weapons. So, whenever you have a substantial collection of these, bring them to the Curator at the camp for weapon upgrades. Different upgrades will have different costs. Also, keep in mind that there are different types of Chroma Catalysts out there.
The standard variant will get your weapons to Level 3. However, if you want to upgrade to higher levels, you’ll need to collect the Polished Chroma Catalysts. You can find this variant in the same way as you did the normal Chroma Catalysts (follow the methods listed above).
