Death Stranding 2’s story spans the lands of Mexico and Australia, and one look at the game’s map immediately tells you that traversing these lands for orders will be no easy task.

You’ll be traveling a lot to complete your deliveries, fighting enemies along the way, and frequently connecting with your religious side when faced with the wrath of the BTs. After a while, the thought of delivering on foot may seem exhausting, if not a downright chore. To counter this, Death Stranding 2 introduces tons of tools, among which the Monorail may be the most useful.

The Monorail in Death Stranding 2 is a railway system that runs along a single track suspended high in the air, supported by bridge-like structures. The Monorail helps you form a link between regions across the map, connecting them with a rail track. You can then use the rail track to transport cargo, or even yourself, as needed.

When first introduced to the Monorail, you start off with the line from West Fort Knot. While this is perfectly fine, you’ll have a much easier time exploring by expanding the Monorail and connecting it to other areas, which we will discuss below.

Since the Monorail makes travel and transport aspects trivial, the developers have locked its extension behind exploration. You first need to explore and experience the world; only then can you extend the Monorail.

As you explore the map of Death Stranding 2, you’ll come across large pillar-like rusty structures. These pillars are Tracklayers and are the very structures that hold the Monorail together. To extend the Monorail, you’ll need to restore these Tracklayers and set up a Monorail extension.

Head over to any of the Tracklayers and interact with them. In the menu that pops up, select the “Restore Track” option. You’ll then have to use Chiral Crystals, Resin, and Special Alloy to complete the restoration. The amount of resources needed to restore the Tracklayer and expand the Monorail is shown in the bottom right corner of your screen.
