Death Stranding 2 not only elevates the narrative but also enhances several core gameplay mechanics. The sequel introduces various useful tools and devices, and the EX Capture Grenade remains a standout among them. As you make your way through Australia, you will gain access to EX Capture Grenades. While it may appear like a normal grenade, it has a unique effect.

The EX Capture Grenade allows Sam to capture and summon Large BTs, making it one of the overpowered equipment. It is one of the notable gameplay improvements, letting you turn a powerful enemy into a valuable ally. How To Obtain EX Capture Grenade in Death Stranding 2

The EX Capture Grenade becomes available to you while traversing Australia. Once you complete the ‘Order No. 33: Deliver Timefall Resistant Emu to the Metagenomist’ and connect the Prepper station to the Chiral Network, you will unlock the weapon data for EX Capture Grenade.

The Metagenomist base is located north of the Northern Environmental Observatory and south of the F5 East Distribution Center. Once you unlock the data, you can then fabricate an EX Capture Grenade using the following resources:

• 120x Chiral Crystals
• 30x Resin
• 25x Special Alloy

Since an EX Capture Grenade is a throwable item, you can place it inside your Grenade Pouch backpack attachment for better cargo management. 

How To Use EX Capture Grenade in Death Stranding 2

EX Capture Grenade is a special throwable that creates a unique effect and crystallizes large BTs (Catchers), allowing you to capture and summon them. You can only use these grenades within a BT zone and against Catchers. To use them, you first need to get dragged into the Tar.

Once you encounter a large BTs (Catcher), you need to reduce its HP to red. Once weakened enough, aim and throw the EX Capture Grenade at its mouth to confirm a capture. If you have successfully captured the BT, it becomes crystallized and drops a special white Chiral Crystal, also known as BT Crystal. 

Collecting the BT Crystal allows you to summon the captured Catcher against other large BTs in future encounters. However, you cannot summon the same type of BT twice in the same battle. To summon a captured Catcher, head to the Special section from the equipment wheel, select BT Crystal, and press X to summon it. However, summoning a BT consumes Chiral Crystals.
