As you progress through the story, you will gain access to a variety of useful equipment and tools. However, some of them require power to function, just like vehicles. These include active skeletons such as Battle Skeleton and Boost Skeleton, as well as other equipment like Combat Power Gloves. Although this equipment enhances Sam’s abilities during his journey, it requires a constant power supply, making battery management crucial.

Fortunately, you can increase your battery level in Death Stranding 2. Here is how it works.

The Extra Battery backpack attachment is one of the most effective ways to manage your battery. It provides additional power to Sam’s fieldwear equipment, allowing you to use them for a prolonged duration. However, it typically takes up a lot of space in your backpack. You can unlock Extra Battery Level 1 after connecting Heartman’s Lab to the Chiral Network. Heartman’s Lab is located southeast of The Dowser and east of the Twin Valley Mine.

Completing more deliveries with the Hydrologist at Heartman’s Lab increases your connection level and unlocks more advanced versions of the Extra Battery. You will unlock Extra Battery Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4 by establishing a 2-star, 3-star, and 4-star connection to Heartman’s Lab, respectively.

  • Extra Battery Level 1 – Provides additional battery to power Sam’s fieldwear.
  • Extra Battery Level 2 – Increases capacity compared to the Level 1 version.
  • Extra Battery Level 3 – Increases capacity compared to the Level 2 version.
  • Extra Battery Level 4 – Same capacity as Level 3 version, but takes up less backpack space.

Considering the large space requirements of the basic Extra Battery versions, obtaining Level 4 is ideal, as it offers high capacity while saving backpack space.

Additionally, you can also prioritize a Mini Extra Battery, a miniaturized version that becomes available after reaching a 3-star connection with Rainbow Valley. It provides a small amount of additional power but requires only a little backpack space.
