Death Stranding 2 requires players to be strategic in how they use their tools and equipment to traverse and deliver cargo. While the game emphasizes exploration, combat plays an equally vital role in the gameplay loop. Gunfights are more common in Death Stranding 2 than in the first game. You will often encounter gunfights where you need to use lethal and non-lethal firearms to fend off human enemies and BTs crossing your path. As a result, you will often find yourself running out of ammo, forcing you to rely on melee combat or enemy weapons.

However, refilling your ammo gives you an edge during tough fights and extended delivery runs. Unlike most action games, you cannot restock your ammo by simply picking up weapons dropped by enemies. Death Stranding 2 features a unique and unusual method to restore ammo, and here is how it works.

Private Rooms are the only way to refill ammo in Death Stranding 2. Although you are able to fabricate tools and gear at various facilities, not all of them offer a Private Room. These rooms are typically available at larger safehouses and serve as personal spaces for Sam to rest.

The Private Room allows you to perform various activities like using the shower/toilet, customizing, and examining weapons. Moreover, entering the Private Room also refills ammo for all your equipped weapons automatically. You will get a notification on the left side of your screen confirming your ammo refill. Since there is no restriction or cooldown, you can use the Private Room to refill your ammo as often as needed.

However, entering and resting in the Private Room neither refills grenades nor repairs weapon durability. Refilling ammo frequently between deliveries helps conserve materials and reduces the need to fabricate new weapons. Using the Spare Ammo Container backpack attachment or carrying weapons with the same ammo type allows you to carry extra ammo.
