To trade with NPC local porters in Death Stranding 2, you will have to choose an item you want to give away, offload it in front of the porter in question, wait for them to accept what you offered, and receive something in return. Follow these steps:
- Hold up on the D-pad to open Cargo Management.
- Select the cargo you want to offload and carry it either in your left or right hand.
- Place the cargo near the porter you want to trade with.
- Press triangle or hold L2/R2 to carry the cargo offered by the porter.
That’s all you need to know about how to trade cargo with the local porters you encounter in DS2. The following are a few things you need to make note of regarding this mechanic:
- The first time you trade with a local porter, it unlocks the Porters Make the World Go Round trophy.
- Make sure the porters have noticed you and stopped. Do not mistakenly hit the punch button and scare them.
- They will usually offer something outright even before you have done so.
- It doesn’t matter what you give them, so choose something that you don’t need and can afford to lose.
While you can’t directly trade with other players in Death Stranding 2 similarly, you can send stuff over and impact their playthrough positively. You should also keep a close eye on the signs that players leave in DS2 (link) to meet supply requests and help a fellow porter out.
