Death Stranding 2 features an auto-drive option for its vehicles. Once you have unlocked this mechanic and learn how to engage it, you will be able to take a breather and rest your fingers as your vehicle navigates the journey. There are, of course, certain limitations with this method that you need to be aware of.

Self-Driving Support is one of the APAS enhancements that allows vehicles to drive themselves under certain circumstances. The in-game description of the enhancement is vague, leaving many players confused about how to use it. This guide explains everything you need to know about Self-Driving Support APAS Enhancements and how to use the auto-drive feature in Death Stranding 2.

To activate self-drive or auto-drive for your vehicle in Death Stranding 2, follow these steps:

  • On a paved road, get your vehicle on the powered-strip in the middle.
  • Accelerate and maintain a steady speed with R2 without boosting with L3.
  • In a bit, you will notice a text “ASST. DRV. BOOT” on the rear plate of the truck. Once the boot is complete, you will see “ASST. DRV.”. This means the auto drive is engaged.

The ‘Auto-Camera’ option popping up on the screen also indicates that the self-driving is enabled. Once it is active, just release the accelerator and let the vehicle do the honors. Your vehicle uses the road’s power supply and takes you to your destination automatically, as long as the road is connected.

How To Self-Drive Unlock in Death Stranding 2?

The Self-Drive APAS Enhancement unlocks when Sam reaches Porter Grade 240. You can equip it by spending 100 APAS Enhancement memory. The in-game description is as follows:

“Allows vehicles to drive themselves. This enhancement will activate upon reaching a certain speed – without boosting – when driving in the center of a road. It uses the road’s built-in power supply to assist with vehicle operation. Release the accelerator and the vehicle will continue to drive along the road.”

Death Stranding 2 Auto Drive Limitations

There are a couple of limitations with the Death Stranding 2 vehicle auto drive that you need to keep in mind:

  • You can only use auto drive while you are on a paved road
  • You cannot use the boosted acceleration to engage auto drive, or while using auto drive
