What Is the Magellan Evaluation in Death Stranding 2?
After you unlock the fast travel option using the Magellan, you might think of loading all of your heavy cargo on the ship and simply flying to the destination. However, when you try to do that, there will be a notification that warns you of the Magellan Evaluation effect on your cargo aboard the ship. The message does not explain what the Magellan Evaluation is and how it will affect Sam or his deliveries. This can confuse new players who are unaware of this mechanic.
The Magellan Evaluation is a mechanic that penalizes you for transporting your cargo using the DHV Magellan. The game wants you to make the deliveries using the open world, even though that might be slow and full of danger. Whenever you use the Magellan instead to haul your cargo, you will receive significantly smaller amount of Likes for completing the said delivery. For instance, if you’re supposed to receive 400 Likes for a delivery, you’ll receive only 100 Likes instead when using the Magellan.
As you can see, this is a huge difference and can impact how quickly you can unlock new gear for Sam. Likes is an in-game mechanic that lets you establish better connection levels with the various facilities you come across. After earning a significant amount of Likes, you can unlock a new connection level with them. With every new level, you get item schematics or other rewards, which you’ll definitely want as soon as possible. So, it’s wiser to avoid using the DHV Magellan to transport your cargo to its destination. That is unless time is of the essence and you simply can’t make the long journey any other way.
