In this guide, we’ll explore how your birthday in Death Stranding 2 has real and distinct gameplay implications.

Death Stranding 2 continues many of the unique traditions that its predecessor established. One of the best examples of this is the birthday mechanic. Like the previous game, you will need to enter a birthday when you start a new playthrough. You can either enter your actual birthdate or pick a random date of birth. Either way, whatever your choice, it will have some ramifications on the actual gameplay.
In this guide, we’ll explore how your birthday in Death Stranding 2 works and why remembering the date you enter is important.

How Do Birthdays Work in Death Stranding 2?

Setting the date of birth will establish which constellation Sam is born under, although that isn’t as important as the game would have you believe. According to the game, people born under certain constellations, such as Cancer, Pisces, Cetus, and Delphinus, are more susceptible to getting the DOOMS disorder. If you’re unaware, DOOMS is the condition that lets some people perceive BTs and other important things in their surroundings.
However, even if your chosen date of birth for Sam doesn’t fall under any of these constellations, his DOOMS status relies only on the game’s story and nothing else.
However, your birthday in Death Stranding 2 has other effects. When you enter a Private Room on the DHV Magellan on the birth date you picked, there will be a celebration cutscene. Once the cutscene ends, Sam will receive the following items:
- Heartman’s glasses
- A slice of pizza that’ll boost stamina
You will unlock the DHV Magellan location shortly after beginning a new playthrough during the Drawbridge episode. So, make sure you reach that point in the game before the birth date you entered approaches. Otherwise, you’ll need to wait a whole year before you can watch the celebration cutscene and get access to the items.

Your Birthday in Death Stranding 2 Has a Secret Connection

There is another hidden use for your birthdate in the game. During Mission 26, Sam will be tasked with delivering an old BB Pod to the Motherhood compound. However, unlike the other delivery destinations, this one is a bit different. Here, you’ll only find a locked door instead of a Delivery Terminal. Beside the door is a keypad that requires a specific password for the door to open.
The password is the date of birth you entered when you first started the playthrough. If it wasn’t your own birthday and it was simply a random date you chose, we hope you remember which date you picked.
