Everything you need to know about Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s PC port and whether it has Denuvo DRM or not.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard is just a few days from its official release. With The Veilguard being one of the biggest PC releases of 2024, many players might be wondering whether the PC port of the latest Dragon Age title comes bundled with Denuvo DRM or not. Well, luckily for PC players, Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s PC port doesn’t have Denuvo DRM. In fact, the PC port, especially the one distributed via Steam, is free of any DRM, for that matter. While DRMs are a part of modern gaming, they are never something that PC players show particular fondness towards, and for obvious reasons. Anti-piracy DRMs like Denuvo and VM Protect are known to bog down performance in PC games, and by implementing them, most publishers just end up punishing the paying customer.
While anti-piracy measures are a necessity for big AAA releases, they often just end up becoming a burden for the players. Thankfully, Dragon Age fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the latest title in the series is free of Denuvo. However, there’s a major caveat to The Veilguard not having any DRM. Here’s everything you need to know about Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s PC port, the DRM(s) it still uses, and more.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Doesn’t Have Denuvo, but There’s a Catch
On Steam, Dragon Age: The Veilguard doesn’t have any DRM (akin to Denuvo). However, that also means there’s no pre-download option for PC players on the platform. On PC, players will have to wait till the official release of the game to download and play it. Meanwhile, on Xbox Series X|S and PS5, The Veilguard is already available for pre-load. It should also be mentioned that on Steam, Dragon Age: The Veilguard doesn’t require any additional DRM on top of Steam’s own overlay. Usually, most EA-published games require the EA App, regardless of the storefront. However, The Veilguard (similar to F1 24 and Dead Space (remake)) is an exception to this rule.
However, if you buy the game on Epic Games Store, you will have to install the EA App in addition to Epic’s PC client to play The Veilguard. Thankfully, even for the Epic Games Store and EA App version of the game on PC, the latest Dragon Age title doesn’t have any additional anti-piracy DRM.
