Doomguy returns with his arsenal of weapons to destroy the underworld army of demons. Here are the best weapons in Doom The Dark Ages.

Doom The Dark Ages was a bombastic return of the franchise with some brutal weapons. While some of the weapons in the game are returning from previous games, others made their debut in the prequel. The gameplay loop is fun and fresh as ever. The Doom Slayer is also back with his regular brutal antics. As usual, every weapon requires a different playstyle and may not be suited to every situation. However, we just found some weapons worthy in almost every situation because they are too good to keep in the arsenal.
Ranking the Best Weapons in Doom The Dark Ages
Not every weapon on the list is made available to the players at the same time. You have to progress through the game to find them all. The list below already consists of the weapons that we consider the best in the game. However, kindly note that the list and the ranking represent the writer’s opinions that you may not agree with. The best weapons in Doom The Dark Ages are ranked below from best to worst:
- Super Shotgun
- Rocket Launcher
- Grenade Launcher
- BFC
- Chainshot
- Impaler
- Shredder
If you wish to know why each of these weapons is on this list, continue reading below for further explanation.
1. Super Shotgun

The Super Shotgun is acquired in Chapter 5 after you have encountered Enforcers for the first time in the game. It is an upgrade from the Combat Shotgun. The rate of fire on this gun is pretty slow compared to a weapon like the Shredder. However, its high damage in close combat situations makes it impressive and worthy of being at the top of this list. It is also pretty versatile, making it useful in almost every other situation.
2. Rocket Launcher

One of the highest damage-dealing weapons in the game is the Rocket Launcher. As the name suggests, it is the game version of an RPG. It deals massive damage to tanky enemies. The missiles launch pretty fast, so you don’t have to think about your opponent’s next move while aiming. However, if you are standing too close, it will damage you when it explodes. That’s the only drawback I could find while playing with this weapon.
3. Grenade Launcher

The weapon right below the Rocket Launcher on this list deserves to be the Grenade Launcher. As a usual Grenade Launcher, it launches ammo that explodes after a short while. Although it has the potential to deal a lot of damage, its inability to explode on contact in most scenarios and a projectile that travels in a lob manner puts it below Rocket Launchers. But still, I think it is one of the best weapons in Doom The Dark Ages.
4. BFC

The BFC was present in Doom Eternal as well. While the weapon looked pretty different in the last game in the series, its function was pretty similar. The Ballistic Force Crossbow is one of the most powerful weapons in Doom The Dark Ages because of the impact it has on groups of enemies. Doom is a game which is rarely about 1v1 fights. Mostly, you will find yourself surrounded by hordes of demons. The game does not go easy on you and sends a bunch of difficult monsters your way.
However, if you have the BFC ammo on you, you can make short work of them. It’s not difficult to aim, but its ammo is rather scarce and you would want to keep it stored for specific situations. That’s the bad part about this weapon—you don’t want to waste its ammo and might forget about it when the need arises.
4. Chainshot

The Chainshot is also an effective weapon in many situations. It is especially useful in dealing with heavier enemies who are not that mobile. While it is good at dealing damage and staggering enemies, it takes a while to charge up before a devastating blow. If you happen to be facing an agile opponent, it may not be as effective. This is the reason why it is so low on this list of “best weapons” in Doom The Dark Ages.
6. Impaler

Impaler is another weapon that deals a lot of damage in one shot. It can even put enemies in a vulnerable position with a single well-placed shot. However, mostly you can use it to target enemy weak points because it functions as a one-hand sniper. Since you have to be pretty precise with it, this weapon can’t be placed any higher than this. Moreover, its fire rate and in-magazine ammo give it a slight nerf. But nevertheless, you can’t say that it’s a weak weapon by any measure.
7. Shredder

As the name suggests, this weapon can absolutely shred an enemy. It is essentially an LMG in the game. So, it deals impressive damage. Moreover, it has a good fire rate that balances out its damage as well. So, if you can land all the shots, you will find that it’s a pretty useful weapon. However, it can be slightly situational because it’s not that useful against heavy or armored enemies.
