One of the most satisfying aspects of DOOM titles is the vast array of weapons that you can use to slaughter demons. From laser blasters to gruesome skullcrushers, each weapon has a particular specialty that performs well against a particular type of boss.

As you keep going through the chapters, the hordes of demons and mob bosses will keep getting more difficult. Hence, you will have to upgrade your weapons to stay ahead in the fights. In this article, we will explain how you can upgrade your weapons in DOOM The Dark Ages.

To upgrade weapons, you need to visit a Sentinel Shrine first in DOOM The Dark Ages. Sentinel Shrines are statues with green flames that you will find scattered across the open world in all the chapters.

Once you interact with Sentinel Shrines, you will have to spend a form of currency to purchase the relevant upgrade for your weapon. There are three tabs once you interact with the Sentinel Shrine:

  • Guns
  • Shield
  • Melee

Each category follows the same format for upgrades. The first few upgrades require Gold to upgrade, whereas the rarer upgrades require a Ruby. Finally, the last and most significant upgrades require Wraithstones.

Upgrading your weapon can often involve a choice, and these mostly tend to change some properties of your weapons as well. For example, upgrading the Accelerator or Cycler will have properties that can transmit the electric explosions to nearby enemies like a chain reaction. Similarly, other weapons like the Skullcrusher can become supercharged which will deal more damage.

Note that once you make a choice during an upgrade, you cannot revert it. As such, you need to properly weigh your playstyle and the effects to see which is better suited for your Slayer.
