As you progress through your objective, you will often encounter Demonic Leaders. They are typically stronger than the standard versions and possess new attacks and abilities, making them more challenging. However, the difficulty further amps up with the Morale Encounters. These are special enemy encounters featuring shielded Leaders.

To disable the shield, you must reduce the Morale meter. The Morale Encounters are first introduced during Chapter 6 Siege – Part 1, when you are defending the Sentinel Stronghold from the invading demons. Here is everything you need to know about Morale Encounters in DOOM The Dark Ages and how to complete them.

What Are Morale Encounters in DOOM The Dark Ages?

Morale Encounters are special battles where the Demonic Leaders are protected by a shield around them. Unlike how standard Leader encounters pan out, you cannot hit them or damage them right away. Instead, you must first break the Morale to remove the shields. Only then will you be able to take them out. You will receive the notification “Leader Detected – Break Morale to disable its shield” at the start of the combat during a Morale Encounter. You will also notice a purple bar beneath the Leader’s HP, representing the Morale meter.

To break Morale and disable the Leader’s shield, you need to empty the Morale meter. Depleting the meter is a straightforward process — simply kill all other demons except the Leader. Killing other demons during the encounter will deplete the meter. Moreover, the more powerful demons you defeat, the more the meter depletes. Once you manage to do away with most demons from the horde, the Morale meter will empty, breaking the Leader’s shield. You will then be able to attack and kill the Demonic Leader, which rewards a Demonic Essence and permanently increases one of the three corresponding stats.
