Ghost Of Yotei: 6 Things To Do First in Ezo

Ghost of Yotei features a brand new map and protagonist that tells a new revenge story, unheard of in its prequel title

Soon after Ghost of Yotei kicks off with the title presentation and the stunning opening visuals, Atsu is left with a plethora of things to do to prepare for taking down the rest of the Yotei Six. Once past the introductory mission, players get access to the open-world map, Gear menu, Skill Tree, and more. Thus, it might get confusing for players to decide their next action. Read this list and schedule the tasks as per your convenience to excel in this journey of revenge.

Ghost Of Yotei Early-Game Guide: 6 Things To Do First in Ezo

Clear the Old Inn

This is one of the first main story quests of Ghost of Yotei, which takes Atsu to the Old Inn to gather leads on Lord Saito and his gang. Ride to the Old Inn and enter to activate a cutscene. Defeat the Saito Outlaws, who were drinking at the Inn. Speak to the Inn owner to end the quest. This quest unlocks Merchants, Stables, Bow Merchant, and Bounties.

Unlock Dual Katana

Find the Dual Katana Master, Hanbei, in this mission as Atsu ventures out to learn the art of Dual Katana wielding. Follow the gust of wind to reach the top of the mountain. Look for Hanbei’s house and enter it. Examine the Katana inside his house to trigger a cutscene. Train with Hanbei here and unlock a new weapon variant: Dual Katana.

Find Altars of Reflection / Bamboo Strike

Altars of Reflection are Shrines in GOY that reward players with Skill Points on bowing to them. Similarly, finishing Bamboo Strike activities across Ezo increases Atsu’s Spirit. This side activity requires players to press some random buttons in a sequence, but also in a timed manner. If you take too long to press the next button, you will fail. If it gets a little difficult, go to Accessibility Settings and set Rapid Button Presses to Simplified. This mode allows you to just memorize the inputs and press the buttons without time being a factor.

Locations for Altars of Reflection and Bamboo Strikes are scattered throughout the map. Looking for both is essential to upgrading Atsu’s character and her weapons.

Loot and Scavenge

Loot from enemy bodies often to scavenge materials and earn money for purchases to upgrade your gears. Do not forget to loot Bounty Hunters as they give you more coins, materials, Charms, and cosmetics. Additionally, players can also loot fish traps to get fish for cooking at camps.

Farm Money by Playing Zeni Hajiki

Play Zeni Hajiki in Ghost of Yotei to earn more coins for your upgrades in the early game. Zeni Hajiki is a gambling coin game where players must strike their opponents’ coins with their own to win them over. To unlock this side-activity, complete the Sleight of Hand side mission.

Using the Spyglass

Go to the Crow’s Nest Watchtower and use your Spyglass to scan the area. Look towards new Points of Interest (POIs) to register them on the map. This allows for better exploration. Players can press the Up D-Pad Button to use the Spyglass. Although it can be used from any high point, Crow’s Nest Watchtower is a good early-game location for using the Spyglass.
