In Ghost of Yotei, you can gamble for coins in Zeni Hajiki games. Recently, we have seen a number of popular in-game mini-games like this that soared in popularity among the player base, e.g., The Witcher 3’s Gwent. While Yotei’s Zeni Hajiki is simplistic in nature, it can become quite addictive with how easy it is to play without the need for learning any unique controls.

If you are trying to make sense of what the game is in Ghost of Yotei, in this guide, we will discuss the basics and a few tips and tricks that you should keep in mind.

How To Unlock Zeni Hajiki In Ghost Of Yotei

To unlock Zeni Hajiki in Ghost of Yotei, you need to complete a side quest by meeting the ronin on the dock of Lake Kuttara at the Kuttara Gambling Den (southern part of the map). You will get this objective by meeting the ronin beforehand during your exploration. I came across him while I was hunting down Smiling Yoshitomo (refer to the image for the location).

Once you meet the ronin on the dock and complete the cutscene, the side quest Sleight of Hand will start. You will need to help the ronin kill off all the enemies at the location: outside the building, inside the building’s first floor, then move to the second floor, and then finally jump out of the window to run up the hill and defeat the sharpshooter.

Another cutscene will start with the ronin pointing a rifle at you. He thinks you will betray him and run off with his money. Convince him otherwise by choosing “That’s not true”. This changes his mind, and he lowers the gun. He asks you to stick around and play a hand of Zeni Hajiki so that he can win some of the money back that he would be paying Atsu for the job.

Once you wake up inside the gambling den, go towards the entrance of the building. The ronin will be on the right. Interacting with him will allow you to trigger a match of Zeni Hajiki in Ghost of Yotei. The first time, you will get a flashback of playing the game with Atsu’s mother. This section acts as a tutorial on how to play the game. Once you have unlocked the Gambling Den, you can fast travel back there later to play Zeni Hajiki.

Additionally, defeating that ronin a second time rewards you with the Charm of Abundant Drink, which increases your Sake capacity by one. This is viable throughout the playthrough, as a second victory in the same Zeni Hajiki spot often grants you a Charm.

  • You get one flick per turn.

  • You get control of the coin you hit (provided it did not fall off the table or touch another coin in the same turn).

  • If your coin does not hit another coin, you lose the turn.

  • Keep in mind your next shot as you aim. You need to position the coin you hit in such a way that the next flick would be relatively easy.
  • Even if you do not have a clear or easy shot, make sure you don’t push any coin off the table.
  • When you hit multiple coins, the position of the coins is not reset. Playing rashly can result in your opponent having an easier time.
  • Use the obstacles (cups and bowls) to aim at the next coin.
  • When on the last two coins, be careful if you do not have a clear shot. Use your turn to keep the coin in such a way that your opponent does not have a clear shot either.
