You will find the A Journey North quest at the Central Ferry, right at the northern edge of the Tokachi Range, near the Great Lake. If you have completed the Prologue, this area becomes available, so you can head there anytime afterward.
Start your trip from the Yotei Grasslands and move northeast. The Nupur River will be on your left. Follow that water path, and you will pass the Smoky Flower Grove, a small marker that means you are close. The route eventually opens up to a lakeside dock; a wooden structure beside a campfire where huci, an elderly Ainu woman, waits.

Steps To Finish A Journey North in Ghost of Yotei
In A Journey North quest, you just have to watch and listen. The goal is simple: wait for the ferryman with huci.
Walk up to her and start a conversation. She will ask if you want to travel north to the Nayoro Wilds. Once you say yes, the game transitions into a short cutscene. You will see Atsu and huci boarding the ferry, crossing the frozen lake as the wind howls around them. The whole scene feels still, almost meditative.
During the ride, huci shares her thoughts about the north; its traditions, its people, and the balance they maintain between community and nature. When the ferry reaches the other side, the quest completes automatically, and you step into the new region.
A Journey North Quest Rewards
Even though this quest doesn’t give you new gear or currency, it rewards you in other ways. Once you finish it, you will gain access to the Nayoro Wilds, a new region that expands your map and unlocks the next part of the story.
Once you arrive, huci continues to play a role as a guide and storyteller. You also unlock a side tale called The Heart of an Ainu, which deepens your understanding of the Ainu way of life. Completing this quest also allows you to continue the main storyline through The Kitsune questline, where Atsu’s revenge story picks back up.
