Learn more about how you can maximize your Standoff skill in Ghost of Yotei and some tips to make it better.
Standoff is a neat feature introduced in the original game and brought back in Ghost of Yotei. It is a formal way to summon or challenge one opponent and dispatch them in one fell swoop. This fighting technique will set the tone if executed correctly and will make enemies cower in fear of your power.
In this guide, we will look at ways you can capitalize on your standoff kills and streaks in Ghost of Yotei. Find out which charms and armor sets can help you slay your enemies with honor.

Overview of the Standoff in Ghost of Yotei

To challenge your enemies to a standoff, stay out of sight and press the left bumper or L1 on your DualSense controller when the prompt appears on the screen. The screen will then fade to Atsu getting into position, holding her weapon by the saya, and the player must hold the triangle button. If released too early, this will put Atsu in a critical position.
The trick is to time the release of the triangle button when the enemy attacks. A perfect standoff will result in their untimely demise by your blade. You can improve this technique through points, charms, and armor.
Armor

Atsu’s starting armor, the Onryo Armor, is a good choice for this build. Enemies will underestimate her because of her size, and each kill will strike the rest with fear. Here are the perks that come with the armor:
- Killing an enemy with a Spirit Attack or a thrown Melee weapon has a minor chance of Terrifying nearby enemies.
- The wolf has a moderate chance to appear when enemies are Terrified.
- Terrified enemies take increased damage by a moderate amount.
Charms
- Charm of Hachiman: Another enemy will rush towards Atsu after her first skill.
- Charm of Resolute Victory: Atsu will regain an extra Spirit for each kill.
- Charm of Swift Reward: Defeated enemies will drop throwable items.
Skills
- Standoff Streak: After your first kill, another enemy will charge towards Atsu.
- Wolf Standoff: A furry companion will join in on the action.
- Standoff Unlock: Pistol: Atsu will pull out her short arm rifle and blast the final enemy by pressing R1.
It is worth noting that there are instances where Atsu will have a companion. Whether it is the wolf or a fellow katana-wielding warrior, they will assist in combat. To use the pistol, you must first complete the Guns and Consequences quest to acquire the new quickfire weapon.
How To Acquire the Onryo Armor in Ghost of Yotei

There is no acquisition process to get the Onryo Armor since this is Atsu’s default armor. You will automatically get it during the prologue, and you can even upgrade it to get better perks.
Finding the Best Charms for the Standoff Build
- Charm of Hachiman: This can be obtained by completing the Oni quest.
- Charm of Resolute Victory: Finish the Fire Fox Den.
- Charm of Swift Reward: Complete the Whispering Woods Fox Den.
With all these charms equipped and skills activated, you can get a max streak of 4, with an extra one if a companion is by your side. It is important to remember that you cannot challenge enemies to a standoff if you were spotted beforehand.
