Ghost Of Yotei Camp Guide (Cook, NPC Meet, Sleep, And More)

Did you know you can set up camps in Ghost of Yotei? Learn how to do so, all the actions possible afterwards, and more in this guide.

You can set up camp in Ghost of Yotei while exploring the wilderness of Ezo. Sucker Punch has emphasised this mechanic quite a lot, introducing mini games, various actions, and surprise visits from familiar places. Other than these, setting up and resting at camp also has the practical impact of refilling your spirits.

This guide outlines all you need to know about setting up camps in Ghost of Yotei, its features, mechanics, and more. Meanwhile, have you been to the top of Mount Yotei yet? Check out our Ghost of Yotei Ultimate Mt. Yotei guide to learn how to get there and everything you can collect.

How To Set Up Camp In Ghost Of Yotei

To set up camp in Yotei, you will have to hit left on the D-pad while near your horse. The game will show a prompt if your horse is nearby. You can not set up camp if you are near any enemy base. You can reuse the camp by pressing R2 when prompted to Rest at Camp. The next camp you make will reset the camp point (much like a save point). You also seem to be able to fast-travel to the last camp you set up.

The option to set camp was unlocked after I painted at the Plum Crane Sumi-E in Ghost of Yotei.

All Camp Activities And Features In Ghost Of Yotei

The camp has two mini games (both of which are skippable by holding X):

  • Lighting up the campfire: Point and flick stones (by flicking on the touchpad) to set the balls of tinder alight. Then point at either and press R2 to blow fire. Keep doing this till both are in flames.
  • Cooking: Move around the controller to bring the food on the stick closer or farther from the fire. Press O (circle) to flip sides. Continue roasting till a short cutscene plays.

You can select different actions by moving around the pointer with the left joystick and pressing X to confirm. The following actions are available at your camp in Ghost of Yotei:

  • Cooking: You can cook with different ingredients, like mushrooms and fish, that you have gathered during your exploration. Each item gives unique perks. We will discuss this further in a separate Ghost of Yotei cooking guide.
  • Sleeping: Point the cursor at your horse and go to sleep. You can skip time to the morning/evening this way.
  • NPC interactions: NPCs you have met earlier in the game can show up at times at your camp. I have encountered a settler I rescued and the map cartographer I met at the Old Inn during my early hours in Ghost of Yotei. A conversation with the former provided me with some information regarding the Yotei Six, while the latter gave me the option to buy more maps to points of interest.
  • Play Shamisen: Play any of the songs you know on the stringed instrument.
  • Craft ammo: You can craft ammo as long as you have the required resources.
