This Ghost of Yotei walkthrough guide will take you through the Cursed Ground side quest from start to finish.
Ghost of Yotei’s Cursed Ground quest gives us an unfiltered look at the terror the Oni has spread across the land. People shudder at just a mention of his name, and nobody even dares to look his men in the eye. Whoever dares to step up to the Oni is swiftly butchered, further strengthening the Oni’s grasp on the soul of the land.
In Cursed Ground, you get to bring some hope, showing a settler that these “demons” they’re afraid of are simply men behind a mask. If this quest is giving you any trouble, our guide is here to help.
How To Begin Cursed Ground in Ghost of Yotei
You begin the Cursed Ground side quest by talking to a settler near the Reliquary of Strength next to Ishikari Fork. As you approach this settler, he will call out to you. This man has lost his horses and needs help from someone good with horses. Select the “Accept Job” option to accept his request and kick off the Cursed Ground side quest.

How To Complete Cursed Ground in Ghost of Yotei

Once you accept the job, the man will reveal that something spooked the poor creatures, and they bolted towards the Oni’s cursed statues. The man knows their exact location, but is afraid of the cursed statues. Since you don’t believe in any of this superstition, you’re perfect for this job.
Follow the man, and he’ll tell you the horrific story behind the statues. The statues were built over the bones of the innocents who dared to stand up to the Oni. Now, these cursed statues are a constant reminder of the wrath of the Oni, and nobody dares to approach them. The first horse, Daichi, is near one such statue.
Get off your horse and follow the trail of statues along the path. You’ll then be given button prompts to call out Daichi. After you call him out a second time, he’ll bolt right past you to eat some flowers. Walk up to the horse to bring him back.
Now with one horse back, it’s time to retrieve the other one. Follow the merchant to the next trail of statues. Follow this trail, and you’ll find the second horse, Umi, tied up. Untie the horse, and a band of Oni Raiders will ambush you, claiming that the horse is theirs. Kill the raiders, rescue the horse, and escort the settler back home with his two horses to complete the quest.
