This Ghost of Yotei walkthrough guide will take you through the Encounters of the Wild side quest in the game.
Ghost of Yotei’s Encounters of the Wild quest, like many others, goes over the atrocities committed by the Nine Tails. This quest shows you how the abhorrent outlaws were using animals for their experiments, and how nature finally caught up to them to deliver justice.
Encounters of the Wild is one of the most satisfying quests in Ghost of Yotei, especially if you’ve been regularly annoyed by the Nine Tails. Finding this quest can be a bit tricky, but this guide will walk you through the entire thing.
How To Begin Encounters of the Wild in Ghost of Yotei

You begin the quest by visiting a Nine Tails outpost near the Shipwreck Shoal, northeast of Hana’s Farm. Head to this location, and you’ll find a Nine Tails outpost on the other side of a cliff. In front of you are two fox statues. Interact with the two fox statues and turn them to face each other.
Once you do so, a rope will shoot out from your cliff, connecting itself to the other cliff. Use the rope to cross the gap and reach the outpost on the other side. You’ll find two more statues here. This time, make the statues face away from each other. This will unlock a secret door in the shed ahead.
Enter inside and you’ll find a room with tons of messages. The Nine Tails use this room to leave messages for each other. Here, you’ll find a message revealing their hideout near Sarufutsu Lighthouse. Pick this message up to begin the quest, and while you’re at it, interact with the shrine at the end of the hall to acquire a free Technique.

Once you have information on the Sarufutsu Lighthouse hideout, head out and cross the rope. Look to your left and you’ll see the lighthouse in the distance. That’s where you need to go. Head to the lighthouse and enter. You’ll find fox statues on the two walls to your sides. Make the bigger statues face the smaller ones in the middle to unlock the statues. Place the two smaller statues on the pedestals to unlock a secret path.
Pass through the secret entrance to discover the Hunting Camp Hideout. The Nine Tails here have been slain by some wild animal. Pass through this camp and free the fox in the cage. Make your way uphill, and you’ll discover a hidden sanctuary, the Sanctuary Grove, and a bear is prowling nearby. This bear won’t harm you, but it is the one that killed the Nine Tails for messing with its cub.
You’ll meet a settler here who now resides and takes care of the animals. Once you talk to her, you’ll find a deer by the gate. Interact by pressing R2, and the deer will lead you to an altar. Reflect on this altar to unlock a path, which will then lead you to a shrine. Use this shrine to unlock free techniques, and exit from the door behind to complete the quest.
