Learn how to complete the Houndmaster Toyotaro bounty in Ghost of Yotei with step-by-step guidance, combat strategy, and rewards.
If you have been exploring the frozen paths of Ghost of Yotei, you will eventually hear whispers about a cruel man who trains wild dogs to hunt people. That’s Houndmaster Toyotaro, and tracking him down is one of the most memorable bounties in the Teshio Ridge region.
In this article, we will discuss everything about the Houndmaster Toyotaro Bounty quest in Ghost of Yotei.
How To Start Houndmaster Toyotaro Bounty in Ghost of Yotei
You don’t need to complete any other mission to unlock this bounty. It’s available right from Chapter 1, which makes it one of the first proper challenges you will face. Head over to the Red Crane Inn in Teshio Ridge, a place you will visit often for side contracts.
Right outside the inn, you will see a bounty board full of posters. Next to it sits Kojiro the Bounty Broker, the man who handles all the payments. Interact with the board and find the one that names Houndmaster Toyotaro. Once you select it, the bounty automatically gets added to your list.
You won’t get an exact marker on your map. So, you will have to rely on exploration and clues scattered across the snow. The region around Red Crane Inn, Contested Farm, and the Teshio River is where your hunt will unfold.
Steps To Finish Houndmaster Toyotaro Bounty in Ghost of Yotei

Start from Red Crane Inn and move northwest through the mountain pass. The area is blanketed in snow, and visibility can be low, so check for footprints and trails of blood. Once you spot the frozen Teshio River, follow it westward until you reach Contested Farm.
From there, take the southern road. Keep your eyes open for a pack of dogs feeding on corpses. You can either follow the dogs’ tracks to Toyotaro’s camp or head straight toward the sounds of growling to find him faster.
When you enter the area, you will notice cages, a campfire, and maybe a few scattered bones. That’s Toyotaro’s hideout. As soon as you step inside, the battle begins.
The fight happens in two phases, and it’s easy to get overwhelmed if you are not prepared.
Deal With the Dogs
Toyotaro sends his trained hounds first. They’re aggressive, and their bites can interrupt your attacks. Take them out quickly with fast swings or ranged attacks if you have them. Don’t let them surround you; keep moving and use your surroundings. The dogs aren’t tough individually, but they work together to wear you down.
Defeating them also fills your spirit meter, letting you use your Onryo’s Howl ability or heal yourself before facing Toyotaro directly.
Facing Toyotaro
Once his dogs are down, Toyotaro charges in. He’s armed with a sharp blade and relies on quick, close-range attacks. His move set isn’t unpredictable, but he hits hard. Watch his glints; blue means you can parry, red means you should dodge.
You will want to keep a steady rhythm here. Don’t rush the fight, and use any throwable items nearby to create openings. If you stay patient and time your parries, he’ll eventually fall.
After defeating him, the snowy area turns silent again. That’s when you know it’s over.

Houndmaster Toyotaro Bounty Quest Rewards

Once Toyotaro is dead, you will automatically receive 750 Coins and Toyotaro’s Fang, a unique weapon kit for sword customization. It doesn’t boost your stats, but lets you give your katana a new look when you visit Father’s Forge.
To officially complete the bounty, return to Kojiro at the Red Crane Inn. Talk to him to collect your payment and close the contract. If you forget this step, the bounty won’t be marked as done.
This bounty also counts toward your Teshio Ridge completion progress, which contributes to the Master Bounty Hunter trophy for finishing all 31 bounties across regions. Since there are only five in this region, this one gets you a good way forward.
