Atsu has been through a lot and has plenty more to go through over the course of Ghost of Yotei’s story, but quests like Old Trails allow her to dive back into the past and relive her pleasant memories. Old Trails is one of the best quests in Ghost of Yotei, offering the perfect balance of action and somber moments. As Atsu, you get to kill a few Saito Outlaws, ride a few beautiful horses, and relive the good old days.

How To Begin Old Trails in Ghost of Yotei
You begin the Old Trails side quest by visiting the stables southeast of Shikotsu Woods, Yotei Grasslands. As soon as you approach this area, Atsu will remark about the stables, reminiscing about the time her father would bring her there.
Enter the area and get off your horse. You can explore the main building to collect some loot, and once you’re done, head to the main stable area. You’ll find a settler there, shooing away a horse. Walk up to the settler and press R2 to talk to him and start the quest.

How To Complete Old Trails in Ghost of Yotei

Talk to the settler, and he will reveal that he’s sending out his horses into the wild. Lord Saito is aggressively seeking horses for his war against the Matsumae, and the settler doesn’t want his horses to end up in the wrong hands.
Before you can ask the man any questions, however, Saito Outlaws will raid the stables in search of the man. The stablemaster will go into hiding, and you then have to kill all the Saito Outlaws. You can challenge them in a head-on fight, but since the enemies are dispersed evenly, it’s easy to pick them off one by one.
Once all the outlaws are killed, the stablemaster will come out of hiding. Talk to the man, and he’ll ask for help in finding his horses. Mount your horse and follow the stablemaster. He’ll lead you to a nearby river, which will then trigger a flashback sequence with Kengo. This sequence will have you follow manure tracks and is fairly simple.
Once you’re done, the stablemaster will recognize you as Kengo’s girl. He’ll then offer you a horse for old times’ sake, and you can choose from Dapple, Black, White, or Brown. You can pick any, as it’s purely cosmetic. Pick your horse and ride off to complete the quest.
