Ghost of Yotei’s Secrets of the Heart quest is an extensive character study of Ran, an enigmatic bowyer in the game. Ran is stoic, but in this quest, through the eyes of Taizo, we get to learn more about her past and why she chooses to maintain such a reserved front.

This is one of the more character-driven quests in the game, but it isn’t without its dose of action. If the quest is giving you any trouble, our guide is here to walk you through it from start to finish.

How To Begin Secrets of the Heart in Ghost of Yotei

You begin the Secrets of the Heart quest by being shot at with an arrow in Teshio Ridge. As you travel northeast from Hana’s place and cross the Teshio River, someone will shoot an arrow at you. The arrow will miss and land in the snow. Interact with it, and you’ll see that it has a note tied to it. The note says, “Help, trapped inside.” The shot came from the nearby house, so that’s where you need to go.

Head northeast, and you’ll find several Nine Tails guarding Ran’s Workshop. Eliminate the Nine Tails around the building, then head inside the workshop to look for the person who sent the note. The lower floor will be empty. Step back outside, and you’ll notice an open window on the upper level. Jump up, enter through the window, and you’ll find a man crouched to the side.

This man, Taizo, was the one who sent the note to you. Talk to him, and he will reveal that the Nine Tails are after Ran, and he needs your help to stop them from getting to her. He’ll then give you the Charm of Raining Arrows. Use this charm to kill the enemies outside.

Once the coast is clear, follow Taizo outdoors. He’ll then mount his horse, and you have to follow him to Ran, killing enemies along the way with your arrows. Escort him to Ran to complete the quest.
