The Five Teachings in Ghost of Yotei is one of the Myth Quests that you receive. In it, you will have to face off against Takezo once again, after going toe-to-toe in a past Myth Quest dubbed Takezo the Unrivalled. The Five Teachings quest involves reaching the peak of Mount Yotei for a legendary duel between Atsu and Takezo.

However, the quest has certain prerequisites that you’ll have to complete beforehand. So, without further ado, here’s a detailed guide of the quest, including what you need to start it and how you can complete it.

How To Start The Five Teachings in Ghost of Yotei

You’ll get this quest as soon as you are done with the Takezo the Unrivalled myth quest. The quest marker points to the peak of Mount Yotei. However, before heading there, you’ll need to equip five specific charms.

The first requirement for this myth quest is you will need to equip all five of Takezo’s Charms that you got after defeating each of his Disciples at the Dueling Trees. This takes place during the Takezo the Unrivalled myth quest. The following are the charms you need to equip:

  • Takezo’s Charm of Renewed Determination
  • Takezo’s Charm of Bold Deflection
  • Takezo’s Charm of Stout Heart
  • Takezo’s Charm of Bracing Victory
  • Takezo’s Charm of Unrelenting Warrior

Once you have all of these charms on, you can proceed toward Mount Yotei.

Getting to the top of Mount Yotei should be simple if you’ve been there in the past. In that case, you can simply fast travel to the Altar of Reflection near the quest marker and simply follow the wind to reach the quest location.

However, if you haven’t been to the peak of the mountain yet, the journey will take significantly longer. You’ll need to go up a long and strenuous path up the mountainside. Either way, when you reach the quest marker, you’ll find a campsite with a few swords sticking out of the ground to its left. You can interact with the campsite or the swords to trigger a cutscene and begin the myth quest.

After a brief cutscene, you’ll regain control of Atsu. You can proceed toward Takezo to begin the fight immediately. Or, you can prepare for the challenging battle at the campsite. Either way, the battle with him will begin as soon as you interact with him and choose the “I am” option when he asks if you’re ready.

Takezo has a variety of attacks that he’ll use during this fight. He’ll use dual katana for the entirety of the face-off. Some of his attacks will have the red glint, indicating that you can’t block or parry them. You’ll need to sidestep to avoid those. Alternatively, when you see blue glints, prepare to parry and counter those attacks.

However, he’s extremely fast, so you’ll have to master the timing of the parries or risk getting demolished in this face-off. Quickfire weapons are highly useful during this duel. For instance, we used the Tanzutsu (pistol) extensively to interrupt many of Takezo’s unblockable attacks. Besides the unrelenting attacks from Takezo, there’s another element at play here. The longer the battle goes on, the more your HP bar reduces due to the intense cold. You can see the cold consuming your health bar from the right side.

It took us a couple of tries and smart usage of our quickdraw weapons to defeat Takezo. Once he’s down, a cutscene triggers, after which the quest comes to an end.

Note: You can choose to lower the difficulty settings at any time from the Gameplay menu if you’re having trouble getting through this battle.
