In this guide, we’ll explore how you can begin and complete ‘The Spider Lily General’ in Ghost of Yotei, one of the myth quests in the game.

The Spider Lily General in Ghost of Yotei is a myth quest that involves battling a famed general. But before you can begin this fight, you’ll have to visit several locations to gather keys for the door that leads to the boss battle. It’s a long quest, but you’ll want to complete it nonetheless because at the end of it, you’ll get access to a brilliant armor set. Here’s a complete breakdown of how you can complete this particular myth quest in the game.
How To Start The Spider Lily General in Ghost of Yotei

Reach the southern edge of the Tokachi Range and listen to Ugetsu’s story at a campfire here. You’ll find the NPC directly south of the Yamane Bluffs and Shizunai Woods. Right beside him is a locked-up gate, and Ugetsu claims that’s where the Spider Lily General is. After his story ends, the quest marker will point you toward the Haunted Plateau. That’s where you’ll need to go to collect all four keys necessary to open the locked gate.
Finding the Keys To Open The Spider Lily General Locked Gate
You’ll have to collect the following four keys if you want to access the locked gate where the general is:
- Pagoda Key
- Maze Key
- Gravestone Key
- Cave Key
Location of the Pagoda Key

Approach the tall tower smack dab in the middle of the Haunted Plateau region. Right next to it will be a few lit candles and a chest containing this key. To make things easier, you can also spot spider lily petals floating near this chest.
Location of the Maze Key

Now reach the northeast corner of the Haunted Plateau, and enter the bamboo maze here. Once in this area, you’ll discover the empty Misty Valley Bamboo Strike. But you don’t have to worry about that just yet. Instead, follow the path that has the red spider lilies lying around. Once you take that path, you’ll once again come back to the start of the maze.
Don’t get confused, and again look for the path with the spider lilies. You’ll have to repeat this a total of three times. After that, the bamboo strike activity will finally spawn, and you’ll find the Maze Key sitting beside it.
Location of the Gravestone Key

Head to the western part of the Haunted Plateau to locate this key. Along the way, you’ll run into a few of Saito’s men. Eliminate them and scale the ladder nearby to reach the cliff. Keep moving forward until you find more enemies. Kill them and proceed to the end of the path to get the Gravestone Key.
Location of the Cave Key

In the eastern parts of the Haunted Plateau is the Southern Caverns, where you’ll find the final key. You’ll spot a wounded samurai here, but the man doesn’t attack you. You can just move past him and enter the caves. Continue further into the cave and scale up a wall. Then, squeeze through some rocks to find a portion of the cave with paintings on the wall. Just by some paint pots in this area should be the final key.
Once you have all of the keys, you can simply head back to the locked door and open it. Proceed inside and destroy a bamboo wall to finally enter the arena where the Spider Lily General boss fight takes place.

How To Defeat The Spider Lily General in Ghost of Yotei

The Spider Lily General is a tough opponent simply because of the speed of his attacks. He doesn’t really have any moves that you haven’t seen before at this point of the game. Still, you should be careful not to take the boss too lightly, as his attacks can still eat away a chunk of Atsu’s health (depending on your chosen difficulty).
Phase 1
In the first phase, the enemy will use a katana to attack you. During this phase, most of his attacks will have either the blue or the red glint. You’ll have to parry the former and dodge the latter to survive the battle and deal damage. Apart from striking after perfect parries, also make sure to stagger him to get wider windows of opportunity where he’s vulnerable.
Quickfire weapons, such as the kunai and the pistol, might also come in handy here. Also, wait for the general to unleash his spin attack. This one is slow, and you’ll be able to parry these strikes easily, giving you decent openings for counterattacks.
Phase 2
Midway through the fight, the Spider Lily General will switch to using a Kusarigama. We suggest switching to the Yari (if you have already unlocked it) to counter any of the moves he makes during this stage. However, keep in mind that the enemy will continually swap between the katana and the Yari, so you’ll also need to change your weapon based on that.
Eventually, his health will drop enough that he’ll stop the battle. After that happens, simply head up the rock path and interact with the armor set you find there. Doing so will clear the cursed mist in the area immediately, bringing the myth quest to a close.
