There are more weapons to unlock in this game than in its predecessor, allowing players to try new combat playstyles. For melee equipment, here is everything you can find and use around Ezo:

  • Katana
  • Dual Katana
  • Kusarigama
  • Odachi
  • Yari

The katana is unlocked by default, but you can acquire new weapons as you progress through the story or take on side quests. The basic principle of upgrading weapons is to farm as many resources as possible before returning to your Father’s Forge. In Ghost of Tsushima, Jin had to visit blacksmiths in forges around the island to upgrade his katana, but Atsu can do it herself.

This is a list of the necessary materials you need to bring to the forge before upgrading:

  • Metals
  • Rare Metals
  • Oni Raider Mask Pieces
  • Gun Parts
  • Shinobi Steel
  • Rare Wood

These are the general materials you need to upgrade all of your melee weapons. The more upgrades you complete, the more effective they will be in battle.

Ranged Upgrades

These are all the ranged weapons Atsu can use:

  • Yumi
  • Hankyu
  • Tanegashima Matchlock

The first two are bow variants, with the second being shorter, similar to the halfbow, and the first serving as the longbow. The Matchlock rifle is a new addition, and it fires lethal rounds with the right ammunition that you can craft

Instead of visiting the forge, you must visit Ran the Bowyer and deliver these materials to upgrade your bows:

  • Coins
  • Wood
  • Oni Raider Masks
  • Shinobi Steel
  • Rare Wood
  • Gun Parts

As for the Tanegashima Matchlock, you need to find Matchlock Murata and deliver some coins and gun parts.

Throwables and Explosives

Here are all the explosives you can throw in the game:

  • Blind Bomb
  • Scorch Bomb

These share most of the same requirements for every weapon, but with more Black Powder instead. You can visit Ina the Bomb Maker for these upgrades.
