This Ghost of Yotei walkthrough will take you through the Worth of a Man quest, a side quest in the Yotei Grasslands.
Ghost of Yotei’s Worth of a Man quest gives us a glimpse at the rot that’s been brewing in Ezo since the war began. The life of the common man has turned to hell, and many are now retaliating in brutal ways. This quest shows a Ronin, fed up with the ever-growing turmoil, torturing a samurai. There’s no valid rhyme or reason for why he’s doing so, except to bring peace to his chaotic mind.
The Worth of a Man quest is one of the more horrific quests in the game and displays war at its cruelest. You may not even know of this because finding this quest can be quite challenging. If that’s what you’re struggling with, or perhaps simply need help getting through the quest, this guide is for you.
How To Begin Worth of a Man in Ghost of Yotei
You begin the Worth of a Man quest by talking to a Ronin in Riverfront Hideout, directly west of Yotei’s Shadow Inn in the Yotei Grasslands. You’ll find the hideout along the edge of the Sarubetsu River.
Enter the hideout, and you’ll find a Ronin sitting under a small shed, having a drink. In his hideout is a samurai tied up and bound. Walk up to the Ronin and press R2 to inquire about the prisoner. This will then kick off the short quest.

How To Complete Worth of a Man in Ghost of Yotei

Talk to the Ronin, and he’ll reveal that he has been torturing and humiliating the samurai for a while now. The samurai is part of the Matsumae clan, and the Ronin has a strong grudge against them. The Matsumae won favor with the Shogun, and their constant war with Saito has turned life hell for the Ronin. Now, he tortures the samurai to find peace and a good sleep.
Following the Ronin’s horrific revelation, you then have the choice to attack him right away or pay him some money to let the prisoner go. We don’t recommend paying and instead suggest attacking the Ronin for his horrific acts.
Attack the Ronin, and his friends will show up to his aid in no time. You’ll have to fight off about four of them, so be wary of your surroundings and don’t let them swarm you. Kill them all, and then walk up to the prisoner. Press R2 to free the samurai. He will be grateful, and you can then ask him for information on either the Saito Brothers or the Oni to complete the quest.
