The different Boon types in Hades 2 help Melinoe in her journey. Every God grants specific Boons to her, which obviously differ during every run. That’s because you won’t meet the same Gods when you begin a run.

Each Boon might give her a special passive ability, a weapon upgrade, or a move that’ll help her face her foes. While there are over a hundred different Boons in the game, they are classified into four standard rarity and four special rarity types. In this extensive guide, we’ll discuss more about every Boon type available.

Boon Types By Rarity

Most Boons you find will be of the following rarities:

  • Common
  • Rare
  • Epic
  • Heroic

The rarity of the Boon determines just how potent its effects will be. Common Boons are white, Rare ones are blue, Epic Boons are purple, and Heroic Boons are red. You might receive a different rarity of the same Boon in two separate runs. However, remember that regardless of the rarity, you can only equip one Boon each in the Attack, Special, Cast, and Dash slots. However, you can equip as many passive Boons as you want.

Special Boon Types in Hades 2

Besides the rarity of the boons, there are other types of Boons that you’ll encounter in the game. Just like Keepsakes, these Boons can have a huge impact on your build. The following are the special boon types you can acquire.

  • Legendary Boons
  • Infusion Boons
  • Duo Boons

Legendary Boons

Legendary Boons are a special rarity of Boons in the game that offer additional perks that the Boon’s lower-tiered rarities simply don’t have. You cannot upgrade a lower-tiered Boon into a Legendary Boon either. For instance, you cannot turn a Heroic Boon into a Legendary one.

Instead, a Legendary Boon from a specific God has a chance of dropping during a run only if Melinoe equips certain specific Boons from that same God. For example, if you’re looking for the King Tide Legendary Boon from Poseidon, you’ll require the following of his Boons first.

  • At least one of the following: Wave Strike or Wave Flourish Boons.
  • At least one of the following: Breaker Rush, Flood Gain, or Geyser Spout Boons.
  • At least one of the following: Hydraulic Might, Ocean Swell, Slippery Slope, or High Surf Boons.

Keep in mind that fulfilling the criteria of having these Boons doesn’t guarantee the King Tide Legendary Boon drop. Instead, it will just enable such a drop to happen. Without meeting the criteria for a Legendary Boon, the game simply never drops that particular Boon for you.

Once you fulfill the requirements, you can use Arcana Cards to improve the chances of a Legendary Boon drop. For example, with the Excellence Arcana Card, you have a 50% higher chance of getting a Legendary Boon. Also, every God has at least one Legendary Boon on offer.

Infusion Boons

One of the Boon Types in Hades 2 is Infusion Boons. To unlock these, you’ll first have to cast the Divination of the Elements Incantation at the Cauldron. To perform this particular Incantation, you’ll need to meet two specific criteria:

  • Talk to Zeus at least once.
  • Fight Scylla at least once.

After the Incantation is over, you can begin collecting Infusion Boons. These drop after you gain a certain number of elements. The game features five elements, namely, Air, Water, Fire, Earth, and Aether. Every Boon from the Gods will correspond to one or more of these elements. So, collecting elements will mean acquiring a certain number of Boons from that specific element. For instance, if you want the Water Fitness Infusion Boon to start dropping, you will have to first collect two water element Boons.

Duo Boons

Finally, we have the Duo Boons. These are special Boon types in Hades 2 that combine the power of two Gods. To start collecting these Boons, Melinoe will need to grab some Boons from each of the Gods involved. For instance, if you’re looking to get the Killer Current Duo Boon, you will need to possess the following Boons first.

  • At least one of the following Poseidon Boons: Tidal Ring or Slippery Slope Boons
  • At least one of the following Zeus Boons: Heaven Strike, Heaven Flourish, Thunder Rush, Storm Ring, Divine Vengeance, or Lightning Lance Boons.

Duo Boons have effects that also combine the power of the two Gods that they come from. So, with the Killer Current Duo Boon, you’ll be able to cast lightning and deal more damage with it to Froth-afflicted foes.

Like Legendary Boons, you can influence the Duo Boon drop rate using Arcana Cards. So, the Queen Arcana Card will increase Duo Boon drop rates by 10%. Keep in mind that will only take effect if you have fulfilled the criteria for a specific Duo Boon.
