Discover how the Cosmic Omen of Weal and Woe work for the Circle of Stars Druid subclass in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Circle of Stars is a Patch 8 druid subclass that communes with cosmic powers and harnesses starlight. Instead of transforming into animals using Wild Shape charges, Circle of Stars druids adopt Starry Forms to fulfill a diverse set of roles in the party. Circle of Stars druids have several intriguing abilities that transcend the physical plane. Among them, Cosmic Omen is particularly enigmatic and seems to redirect the threads of fate in the Druid’s favor. This ability can shift the tide of battle and help characters pass difficult ability checks, adding a layer of subtlety to the druids’ playstyle.
What is Cosmic Omen in Baldur’s Gate 3?

After a Long Rest, Circle of Stars druids receive either the Cosmic Omen of Weal or the Cosmic Omen of Woe. The former focuses on buffing allies’ rolls, while the latter reduces the enemies’. Unlocked at level 6, the ability initially comes with three Cosmic Omen charges. The druid can use a Reaction + Cosmic Omen charge to influence the aforementioned rolls.
The third subfeature of the ability, the Cosmic Omen: Ability Check, is a cantrip that consumes one Cosmic Omen charge to cast and functions like a buffed version of Guidance. It adds 1d6 to an ability check while Guidance adds a 1d4.
Cosmic Omen of Weal
You can spend a Reaction + Cosmic Omen charge to add 1d6 to a friendly Attack Roll or Saving Throw. For example, if a party member needs to make a Dexterity Saving throw against a spell, you will be given the option to use a Reaction and Cosmic Omen charge to add 1d6 to their roll. If a party member’s attack is about to miss, the game will provide the option for Cosmic Omen of Weal to add 1d6 to the Attack Roll, giving it another chance to hit.
Cosmic Omen of Woe
Cosmic Omen of Woe works similarly to Weal but is triggered to reduce the enemies’ attack rolls. If a hostile character is about to hit a party member with an attack roll, the Circle of Stars druid can use a Reaction + Cosmic Omen charge to subtract 1d6 from their roll. The same Reaction can be used against an enemy attempting to make a Saving Throw of any kind, reducing their roll by 1d6 and increasing the probability of failure. This can be especially powerful when trying to use spells like Hold Person, which can take a threatening foe out of the fight.
Is Cosmic Omen of Weal and Woe active at the Same Time?

The Cosmic Omens of Weal and Woe are not active simultaneously. After a Long Rest, the druid will consult their star map, and the game will decide whether you gain the Cosmic Omen of Weal or the Cosmic Omen of Woe. There is a 50-50 chance to get either of them, but the Cosmic Omen: Ability Check reaction will remain available in either case. At level 9, Cosmic Omen charges increase to four. The charges are replenished after a Long Rest.
