In Dune Awakening, you will need to build a base to house a variety of equipment and tools, which are critical for your long-term survival and progression. You will often need to return to your base to craft upgrades, refill your water container, and more. However, since Arrakis is so massive, players might benefit from building multiple bases across the map. This can help them access a base quickly without needing to traverse huge expanses of desert.

If you’re wondering how many bases you can have at the same time, the answer is three. In this guide, we’ll explain what types of bases in Dune Awakening you can have simultaneously and how these work.

You can have three bases in total. Out of those, you can have up to two sub-fiefs. One of the slots will always need to be an advanced fief. If you try to place more than the allowed number of bases, you will be greeted by an error message informing you of the same.

Sub-fiefs are the smaller bases that you’ll build during the early hours of the game. They cost fewer resources, and their smaller size makes them more modular. So, you can easily shift the location of sub-fiefs whenever necessary. You don’t pay taxes on sub-fief constructions.

On the other hand, the advanced fief is similar to your headquarters. It is a much larger base that you can continue to expand as necessary. However, these types of bases will incur taxes that you’ll have to pay from time to time. The larger your advanced base, the more tax you will need to pay for it.

You can place only two sub-fiefs, so all three slots can’t be sub-fiefs. However, you might decide to use all three base slots for three advanced fiefs. Doing so will cause you to pay a massive amount in taxes. However, theoretically, you can do this if you choose. You can also remove the console from any of your bases to abandon them. Abandoning a base can be useful when you need to free up a slot or simply want to start over.

Can You Claim Abandoned Bases in Dune Awakening?

You might find bases that don’t have a console inside. These are bases that another player created and then abandoned. You can claim these, provided you have a free base slot. So, if you already have two sub-fiefs, you won’t be able to claim an abandoned sub-fief that you come across. Or, if all three base slots are full, you won’t be able to claim an abandoned base. Also, keep in mind that you can claim an abandoned base by placing a console inside it.
