In this guide, we’ll explore how you can betray your faction in Dune Awakening and whether doing so can benefit you.

In Dune Awakening, you can either join House Harkonnen or House Atreides. Regardless of the faction you pick, different outcomes will come up in the endgame. However, if you joined a faction quite early without realizing the repercussions, you’ll be happy to know you can defect to the other side.
If you have no qualms about betraying what used to be your faction in the game, Dune Awakening will allow you to do so. However, keep in mind that taking such a decision can lock you out of faction-specific rewards. In this guide, we’ll explain how you can betray your faction in Dune Awakening.
Betray Your Faction in Dune Awakening: How Does It Work?

After you’ve joined either of the two factions, you can decide to betray them at any point in time. To do this, you need to head to the Anvil Outpost. This location is in the Vermillius Gap region of the map.
Once at the Anvil Outpost, you can speak with the representatives of the opposing faction to defect to the other side. The representative for Harkonnen is a man named Maxim Kazmir, while the Atreides representative is Lt. Tolliver. Speaking with either of them will present a dialogue choice that you can pick to betray your present faction.
So, if you are currently a House Atreides faction member, you can speak to Maxim Kazmir and officially join the Harkonnen after betraying the other faction. And, if you’re looking to leave Harkonnen, you’ll need to speak with Tolliver.
In some instances, these two representatives may not offer you the option to betray your current faction. This could be due to a bug in the game. At any rate, there are alternate representatives that you can visit to carry out the betrayal.
- If you’re defecting from Atreides to Harkonnen, speak with Piter de Vries at the landing zone in Harko Village.
- If you’re defecting from Harkonnen to Atreides, speak with Thufir Hawat in Arrakeen, near the Ornithopter landing zone.

Repercussions for Betraying Your Faction
You shouldn’t take betraying a faction lightly. Doing so will have the following consequences for the rest of your playthrough:
- You won’t be able to rejoin a betrayed faction.
- You won’t be welcome in the faction’s territories.
- Betraying a faction also means you getting thrown out of faction-allied guilds.
- Any incomplete faction contracts for the betrayed faction will be canceled immediately upon the betrayal.
However, you can still purchase weapons, armor, and other faction-based items from traders, regardless of which group you betray.
