In Minecraft, there are many mobs that you can keep as pets in your house, or decorate your base by keeping them around. One of the more uncommon mobs players can keep as pets is an Axolotl. These cute aquatic mobs spawn in the Lush Caves biome. There have to be clay five blocks underneath a water source for an Axolotl to spawn in. However, you can also breed these cute creatures to grow them in numbers.

But how do you breed Axolotls in Minecraft? Here’s a simple guide to help you out.

Here are all the things you have to gather to breed Axolotls with ease:

  • 2x Axolotl
  • 2x Bucket of Tropical Fish

And here’s how you get them:

  • Axolotl: As we mentioned before, they spawn only in Lush Cave biomes. These are one of the few bucketable mobs, which means you can pick them up in water buckets. Find two of them and pick them up in buckets to bring them to your desired location.
  • Bucket of Tropical Fish: Tropical Fish are a variety of fish in Minecraft. These fish are found in the Ocean, Mangrove Swamps, and Lush Caves. You can use water buckets to pick up and store them. You can also occasionally buy a Bucket of Tropical Fish from Wandering Traders for five emeralds.

With all the buckets in your inventory, you can now start breeding Axolotls in Minecraft.

To successfully breed Axolotls in Minecraft, follow the steps given below:

  • First, make sure you place the Axolotls in water. They can roam outside the water by themselves, but only for five minutes. They tend to stay near the water source, so you won’t have to worry about them running away.
  • Now use the Bucket of Tropical Fish on each of the two Axolotls, and they should have heart signs when fed with Tropical Fish.
  • After you feed both the Axolotls, they get close to each other, and a baby Axolotl spawns.

The Axolotl baby follows its parent until it naturally grows into an adult Axolotl. When breeding, there is also a chance for the baby to be a blue Axolotl, which has a 0.083% chance of happening.
