Maluca is arguably the biggest roadblock in The First Berserker Khazan’s first half. Although not as intimidating as bosses like the Viper and Volbaino, Maluca is still one of the greatest bosses in the game in terms of sheer difficulty.

Maluca was such a massive challenge for some players that developer Neople had to nerf the boss considerably in one of the major post-launch updates. Yet, even after the nerfs are applied, Maluca presents a significant jump in difficulty compared to the previous bosses in the game. Not only does Maluca deal a ton of damage with every single attack, but he is also one of the few bosses in The First Berserker with the ability to heal themselves.

Thankfully, defeating Maluca is fairly easy once you know how to counter its most devastating attacks. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to defeat Maluca in The First Berserker Khazan.

Maluca is one of the main story bosses, serving as the final obstacle Khazan faces in the Veiled Knives mission. As the leader of the Knivesveil, Maluca was once a kind and benevolent leader who would go to lengths just to make sure his people were safe and sound. While he did despise loyalists and the Emperor, his hatred was not misguided, as he was known to be just and only took up arms when it was absolutely necessary. However, following his visit to El Ravaca, something changed in Maluca. He was no longer the kind leader he was once known for. Instead, he became ruthless, killing any and all who opposed him mercilessly, even his own men.

Maluca wields two completely different weapon sets: Dual Greatswords and Dual Katanas (Curved Swords). In his first phase, Maluca uses his Greatswords, which despite being slow, deal a ton of damage. However, once consumed by Chaos, he switches to his Katanas, which completely changes the tempo of the battle. Furthermore, Maluca can heal himself mid-battle, granted Khazan fails to interrupt him. And in addition to that, the boss also has access to multi-hit combos, some of which can easily one-shot you.

However, as is the case with most human enemies in The First Berserker Khazan, Maluca’s biggest weakness is his Endurance. Much like the player (Khazan), Maluca also relies on his Stamina Gauge to execute attacks. As such, he’s quite easy to stagger. Furthermore, unlike Viper, parrying Maluca’s attacks is quite easy as long as you can understand the timings.

Tips To Easily Defeat Maluca

Maluca is extremely weak to Poison and Lightning. Fire also seems to work well against the boss. However, Poison is the best option if you want to defeat the boss as fast as possible. In addition to that, if you want to have an easier time with the boss, we highly recommend using either Spear or Dual Wield.

Reallocating your Skill Points is free in The First Berserker Khazan. The only thing that costs Gold is the Primeval Orb of Regression, which is used to respec Khazan’s attributes. However, you can easily purchase the Primeval Orb from the Bard for just 10,000 Gold and spec into a new weapon. We recommend using the Spear, which trivializes Maluca.

The primary objective against Maluca would be to play defensively until you see/create an opening to attack. Maluca is quite easy to falter, and parrying its multi-hit combos often leaves him vulnerable to follow-up attacks. However, timing the parries can be quite tricky. This is where the Phantom Heatwave skill comes into play. Here’s a breakdown of how to easily defeat Maluca in The First Berserker Khazan:

First Phase

  • The first phase is fairly simple, as Maluca only uses his Greatswords, which are easy to predict and parry. Furthermore, the Greatswords are also quite easy to dodge and give you plenty of time to punish in between combos.

  • You want to start the encounter with a parry or a Brink Dodge, followed by the Spear’s Trance combo. You can also perform a Spiral Thrust to deal additional damage to the boss.

  • The first phase is quite short (roughly 20% of the Maluca’s total HP). However, it does give you ample time to learn his basic combo patterns. The second phase does see the Greatsword return. As such, it’s best to memorize the boss’ attacks in the first phase.

  • Additionally, the first phase is also where you want to deal damage to the boss and accumulate Spirit. That way you’ll have plenty of Spirit to use in the second phase.

  • In terms of skills, we recommend Trance, Spiral Thrust, and Phantom Heatwave. Additionally, for the armor, the best choice is either Deep Shadow or the Fallen Lord’s Set.

Second Phase

  • The second phase is a bit tricky to nail down. However, with proper timing, you can easily get through this phase. The biggest hurdle in this phase is going to be Maluca’s sheer agility. Furthermore, the new weapon moveset can catch you off guard, at least on your very first attempt.

  • Maluca always starts this phase with a jumping attack followed by a Chaos slash. While you might be tempted to parry these combos, they need to be dodged to avoid Chaos build-up. Do remember to carry Chaos Cleansing items for this phase.

  • After the Chaos slash, Maluca will continue attacking with a flurry of combos, which are best avoided using dodge. At the start of this phase, your primary objective will be to exhaust Maluca. You can parry some of his attacks, but the timing is quite tricky; as such, it’s best to simply dodge most of his combos. Having the Moonlight Stance skills helps a ton in this phase.

  • Once you see Maluca’s stamina dropping below 50%, that is when you can start dishing out your combos. If you’re using the Spear, start with the Spiral Thrust, followed by Trance. If you’re using Dual Wield, use Phantom Sword Dance to dish out raw and stamina damage to the boss.

  • After a while, Maluca will sheath his Katanas and bring out the Greatswords. During the Greatsword phase, you can freely dish out your combos while also parrying most of Maluca’s attacks.

  • The Greatsword attacks are easy to parry, and doing so not only deals damage to Maluca’s HP bar but also his stamina. If you want to expedite the process, use the Concentrated Poison Essence to deal poison damage to the boss.

  • Lastly, if you find Maluca starting to heal himself, quickly interrupt him with a charged or a Spirit attack combo.
