Dune Awakening has a dynamic combat system which is essentially a sandbox. You can choose from a wide range of weapons comprising both ranged and melee options. You can also take tanks to battle at times, although that is a different scenario altogether. Enemy NPCs are not too difficult, but some might prove to be more annoying, owing to their Shields. A shielded enemy can negate your ranged attacks, as bullets mostly ricochet off them.
However, defeating shielded enemies in Dune Awakening is not a difficult task at all. There are some specific tricks that you need to know, and you will be able to make short work of them in no time. Ways To Defeat Shielded Enemies in Dune Awakening
There are three primary ways to defeat shielded enemies in Dune Awakening:

- Use Special Weapons or Skills

Use Slow-Moving Attacks
Slow-Moving attacks are essentially like charged attacks. You need to hold your primary attack button, which will deal a heavier but slower attack. This will penetrate shields easily, allowing you to deal damage and defeat shielded enemies in Dune Awakening. Almost all melee weapons will work this way, although it is not without its drawbacks.
To execute a Slow-Moving Attack, you need to get close to the enemy. If the enemy is skilled, they can also counter attack and deal a lot of damage to you. As such, understand the gap between you and your enemy, and properly weigh in all the options. However, your own shield is active while using a melee attack so this will offer some form of protection, especially against ranged attacks.
Wait For The Opportune Moment
A shielded enemy is not completely invulnerable. If you have a keen eye, you will be able to spot the most opportune moment for a counter-attack. The Holtzmann Shield can ricochet ranged attacks, yes, but the enemy has to disable it to fire their own weapons. As such, keep an eye out for when the blue kinetic glow disappears from the shielded enemies in Dune Awakening. This is a visual cue that the enemy has deactivated their shield, and will fire at you.
If you are able to get the timing right, you can use your ranged options to land a flurry of shots at the shielded enemy and defeat them in Dune Awakening. With no shield, you should be able to completely shred them to smithereens in no time.
Use Special Weapons and Skills
Certain special weapons like the Disruptor and Drillshot Rifle can also bypass the protection of shields in Dune Awakening. These special weapons function differently from most generic weapons, which counters the working of a shield. As such, shielded enemies can be easily defeated by using these weapons.
Other than that, skills like the Shield Overcharge for the Mentat class and status effects can also bypass the protection of shields. As a result, you can easily defeat them without much hassle in Dune Awakening.
Which is The Best Way To Defeat Shielded Enemies in Dune Awakening?
Unless you use the Mentat class, using Slow-Moving Attacks is the best way to defeat Shielded Enemies in Dune Awakening. As mentioned before, this is a slightly risky endeavor since you need to get close to your enemy. That said, this is also the easiest option since you will ideally always have a melee weapon on you.
Other than that, special weapons like Drillshot Rifle or Disruptor are also great options, but you will need to craft these. Moreover, these are not available during the early stages of Dune Awakening, and you will come across quite a few shielded enemies during the wee hours of the game.
