Everything you need to know about the Cacodemon in Doom The Dark Ages, including its weaknesses, how to easily defeat it, and more.

The Cacodemon is easily one of the most challenging enemies in Doom The Dark Ages. This is quite ironic considering they were the easiest to kill in Doom Eternal and Doom (2016). In past Doom games, the Cacodemons were mostly on the same level as the Soldiers or the Imps in terms of difficulty. However, in the case of Doom The Dark Ages, the Cacodemons are now a serious threat, rivaling the likes of Cyberdemon and even the Cosmic Baron. The flying demon has also undergone massive overhauls in terms of its design and attacks. Here, the Cacodemon no longer fires small fireballs. Instead, it uses cosmic energy beams that deal a ton of damage and also stagger the Slayer.
However, much like in Doom Eternal, there are ways to easily dispatch the Cacodemon in The Dark Ages, as long as you know how to properly use the arsenal given to you. Here’s everything you need to know about the Cacodemon in Doom The Dark Ages and how to easily defeat it.
Where To Find the Cacodemon in Doom The Dark Ages?

In Doom The Dark Ages, Cacodemons start appearing fairly late into the game’s main campaign. You start encountering them once you reach Mission 15 – City of Ry’uul. From that mission forward, you will encounter at least one Cacodemon per chapter. They are treated pretty much like a mini-boss. The new design of these floating demons is very much inspired by the new Lovecraftian theme of the game’s later chapters. Cacodemon is much bigger than its Doom Eternal Counterpart. The design of the Cacodemons in the latest title is more akin to the Pain Elemental and the Spider Mastermind.
Furthermore, there’s also a Titan-class variant of the demon, the Giant Cacodemon. However, you only encounter them in the missions where you get control of Serrat.
How To Easily Defeat the Cacodemon

The Cacodemon in Doom The Dark Ages has quite a few attacks at its disposal. In Doom Eternal, the Cacodemon was a fodder enemy that you could take out using a well-placed Sticky Bomb (Combat Shotgun Mod). However, that’s no longer the case in The Dark Ages. Instead, you need to treat the demon as a mini-boss akin to the Cyberdemon, Vagary, or the Cosmic Baron.
The primary attacks of the Cacodemon include cosmic energy beams that cover a wide radius. The only way to efficiently avoid getting hit by this attack is to use the Shield Saw to block it. Energy beams also have tracking; as such, you can’t outrun them, unless you stagger the demon.
Additionally, the Cacodemon also fires a homing projectile that you can parry. However, it only uses the projectile attack if the Slayer is at a medium distance from it. You can technically cheese the Cacodemon for its projectile attack and parry it, but doing so is quite difficult when surrounded by other enemies and elites. Lastly, the Cacodemon also has its bite attack, which doesn’t do much damage, but staggers the Slayer. As for the easiest way to dispatch the Cacodemon, it basically needs you to use three things: Shield Saw, Rocket Launcher, and Chainshot.
Use the Shield Saw to lock the Cacodemon in its place. The Cacodemon doesn’t have armor and can be staggered with the Shield Saw. Once the demon is locked in its place, use the Rocket Launcher to deal a ton of damage. As soon as it recovers from the stagger, switch to either the Super Shotgun or the better, the Chainshot. Get at a medium distance from the demon, parry its projectile attack, and follow it up with a charged Chainshot combo. If all goes correctly, a single Chainshot attack will be enough to falter the demon. Simply press the finisher button to kill the demon for good.
Additional Notes
The aforementioned method works perfectly in all difficulties, including Pandemonium and Ultra-Nightmare. However, in easier difficulties, i.e., Aspiring Slayer and Hurt Me Plenty, using the Rocket Launcher should be enough to take down the demon.
