In PEAK, climbing to the top of the island is quite difficult, especially when nearly everything around is trying to either knock you down or outright kill you. If you take a lot of damage and also run out of healing items, then climbing for even a couple of seconds can become a herculean task. In these moments, you can use the Piton item to create resting spots on walls or assist you with climbing.

This article explains how you get and effectively use the Piton in PEAK.

A Piton is a small hook-like piece of equipment that you can jam into any kind of surface to act as an anchor. Moreover, the Piton comes with a 7m-long piece of rope that extends automatically when you anchor the Piton on something. You can often find these in normal luggage bags, but the survival luggage has an increased chance of having one in it.

The best thing about this equipment is that it has unlimited uses. You only have to retrieve it from whatever surface you have jammed it into, which is quite a hard task most of the time. The other good thing about the Piton is that hanging from the rope or the Piton itself does not consume stamina. Therefore, you can use these as good resting places during long climbs.

How To Use a Piton in PEAK

Once you have a Piton in your inventory, make sure it is in a slot that you have access to during the climb. If you store the Piton in your backpack, you won’t have access to it until you take it out again, which is impossible while climbing. Once you have the Piton in your hand, simply interact with any type of surface to lodge the Piton on it. A small rope slowly extends from the Piton and reaches a maximum of 7m after four seconds.

You can take out the Piton the same way you use it—by interacting with it. Note that the process takes about three seconds, and you have to let go of the Piton or the rope to interact with it. Here are a few practical uses of the Piton in PEAK:

  • You can use it on a ledge if you wish to explore the area below you. Doing so creates an easy way to climb back up to the higher point.
  • You can lodge it on steep walls. This way, you won’t have to worry about stamina mid-climb.
  • You can give the Piton to the player with the most stamina for them to create an easy pathway for others.
