In Baldur’s Gate 3, The Helmet of Smiting is a medium armour piece for the paladin class, and you can get it from a chest during Act 1 – This short Guide Explains everything you need to know about the Helmet of Smiting in BG3.
The Helmet of Smiting
In Baldur’s Gate 3, The Helmet of Smiting enhances your Smite spells by granting temporary hit points when you apply conditions with them and makes you more resilient to Constitution-based saving throws by adding a +1 bonus to those throws. You can equip it to your character’s chest slot, and the user needs Medium Armour proficiency or suffers penalties while wearing the armour. It’s a must-have for the Paladin Class’s early stages of the game.
The Bolstering Smite bonus applies when you use one of your Smite spells to inflict a condition on an enemy. You receive temporary hit points when you successfully apply a condition using a Smite spell. The number of temporary hit points you gain equals your Charisma Modifier. Temporary hit points are like a protective buffer that absorbs damage and don’t last indefinitely. They are a useful defense mechanism to absorb damage before your actual hit points are affected.
In Baldur’s Gate 3, Saving Throws mitigate harmful effects, such as spells or conditions. A higher Constitution Saving Throw bonus means you are more likely to resist these effects when they target your Constitution attribute. For example, if an enemy casts a spell that requires you to make a Constitution Saving Throw, having a +1 bonus increases your chances of successfully resisting the spell’s effects.

How to Get a Helmet of Smiting in Baldur’s Gate 3
You can get Helmet of Smiting in Act 1 from a glided chest (X:164 Y:-251) located in the Selunite Outpost in the Underdark. Here is a short overview of how to get Helmet of Smiting:
- Progress until you reach Act 1
- Enter The Underdark
- Head to the Selunite Outpost in the Underdark
- Open the locked door to the east room on the top level of the outpost.
- Inside, Lockpick the glided chest and Get the Helmet of Smiting.
To get the Helmet of Smiting, you must first enter the Underdark. There are a few entrances, including trying the Shattered Sanctum and Auntie Ethel’s house, but I’ll quickly explain how to get there through the Whispering Depths underneath Blighted Village. You’ll need the potion, scroll, or spell of Feather Fall, so ensure you have one before proceeding.
Find the Underdark
Set your course west from Emerald Grove, and you’ll easily find the Blighted Village and a well in the middle. You must pass an Investigation skill check of 10 DC, to use it and climb down to the Whispering Depths. Inside the cave system, there are giant Spiders and Spider Matriarchs (X: -543 Y: -366). You must defeat them first, so we advise you to reach at least level 3 so you’ll have no problem with the fight and surviving in the Underdark.
Once you are ready and defeated the spiders, you need to jump down the big tunnel (X: -543 Y: -366) leading straight down to the Underdark, and that’s when you need the Feather Fall spell. Use it so you won’t take any fall damage. In the Underdark, you must find the Selunite Outpost located on the far southeast side of the Underdark map. Still, active defense systems won’t allow you to enter the ruins from the front gate. Jump the rocky shelves on the left side of the outpost, where there are a broken window and destroyed wall, allowing you easy access inside.
Once inside, take the stairs up and unlock the door to the east room, where you find a glided chest (X:164 Y:-251) with the Helmet of Smiting inside. Loot the chest and enjoy your new gear! That’s all you need to know about Helmet of Smiting in Baldur’s Gate 3!
