Baldur's Gate 3 Ring of Twilight tooltip BG3

In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Ring of Twilight is an accessory piece that any class or companion can equip to gain a bonus to your Armour Class while hidden. The Treader by Twilight trait grants the wearer a +1 bonus to their Armour Class while they are obscured. Obscured is a condition in Baldur’s Gate 3 that reflects the degree to which a party member is hidden from enemies.

When a character is crouched or sneaking, and an enemy turns to look at them, they can be in one of three states:

  • Clearly seen (you are not in shadow or hiding behind anything)
  • Lightly obscured
  • Heavily obscured

Additionally, even if you are not sneaking, if you are standing in a Lightly Obscured or Heavily Obscured area, these values can still apply. Finally, the +1 AC bonus on the Ring of Twilight will apply regardless of whether your character is Lightly or Heavily Obscured.

How to Get Ring of Twilight in Baldur's Gate 3

To get the Ring of Twilight in Baldur’s Gate 3, you must find a broken-down tower on the southwest end of the Ruined Battlefield, discover the hidden chest, and unlock it to get to the ring inside.

Step 1- Find a Moonlantern

To safely reach the broken-down tower at the southwest end of the Ruined Battlefield you will first need to find a Moonlantern. This item will protect you from this more powerful area of the Shadow Curse. Otherwise, any party member who ventures too far will receive a damage-over-time effect. The best way to get a Moonlanter in BG3 is to join the Convoy after entering the Shadow-Cursed Lands from the Mountain Pass route.

Step 2- Find the Traveler’s Chest

After you’ve found a Moonlantern, head southwest on the Act 2 map toward Reithwin Town. The broken tower you are looking for is on the Ruined Battlefield side of the water, to the east.

The stone doorway into the tower will be wide open, and you can easily venture inside and look around. The Traveler’s Chest is directly across from the opening, hiding behind some clay pots on the ground. It will be locked, so you will need a character with good Sleight of Hand to open it. However, it’s only a 10 DC, so even if you don’t have Astarion available, you’re likely to succeed. After breaking open the chest, you will find the Ring of Twilight inside.

How to Use Ring of Twilight in BG3?

Baldur's Gate 3 Stealth Visibility Indicator

To get the most out of the Ring of Twilight in Baldur’s Gate 3, you need to become adept at strategically positioning your Rogue or Ranger character in places where they can’t be easily seen. If a character becomes obscured you will see a little icon above their head. A fully white sun means they are not obscured at all. If there is a half-white/half-dark sun icon, then it means they are Lightly Obscured. An icon showing a fully hooded head means that you are Heavily Obscured.

Your Rogue and Ranger can obscure themselves by moving to a shadowy area or partially getting behind an environmental object that breaks an enemy’s line of sight. Additionally, your character is also considered obscured while they are crouching to hide, so long as they stay outside of an enemy’s red cone of visibility.
