Everything you need to know about how to get the Faster Than Fog trophy in Silent Hill 2 Remake – best strategies, weapons, and more.
The Faster Than Fog trophy is easily one of the most challenging unlocks in Silent Hill 2 Remake. For a regular playthrough, you will spend around 15 to 20 hours to reach the conclusion of the remake. It may take a bit more or less depending on the chosen difficulty preset. This is fairly standard for a linear survival horror game.
However, for the Faster Than Fog trophy, you’re asked to complete the entire game in less than 10 hours. Naturally, finishing a game that takes at least 15 hours on average in less than 10 hours isn’t easy. Furthermore, unlike the recent Resident Evil remakes, the New Game Plus mode in Silent Hill 2 Remake doesn’t carry over the inventory from the previous playthrough.
As such, even in New Game Plus, you will have to search every nook and cranny for ammunition and other resources. Furthermore, none of the weapons from the previous playthrough carries over to New Game Plus, and hence, you cannot simply brute-force your way through the early-game combat sections either. Thankfully, there are ways to easily complete the game well under 10 hours, as long as you can skip the majority of the puzzles. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to easily obtain the Faster Than Fog trophy in Silent Hill 2 Remake.
Prerequisites for the Faster Than Fog trophy in Silent Hill 2 Remake
The Faster Than Fog trophy unlocks if you finish Silent Hill 2 Remake in under 10 hours, at any difficulty preset. Much like the secret ending and Radio Silence trophies, Faster Than Fog is meant to be unlocked in New Game Plus. However, you can also get it in a standard playthrough, with some skips. The reason why you want to do a New Game Plus run for this specific trophy is so that you can get access to the Chainsaw weapon. The Chainsaw is easily the most powerful weapon in Silent Hill 2 Remake, capable of killing most enemies in a few hits, including bosses. However, Chainsaw is exclusive to the New Game Plus mode.
Another way you can make getting the Faster Than Fog trophy much easier is by playing the game on the Light difficulty preset. The Light combat and puzzle difficulty essentially make it much easier to get through the game. Lastly, make sure you have access to solutions (codes) for most of the puzzles on your chosen difficulty. Most of the code-related puzzles in the game can be skipped if you already know the combination. Doing so saves roughly six to eight hours on your playthrough.
To summarize, here are all the prerequisites for the Faster Than Fog trophy:
- Complete the game in under 10 hours.
- Start the game in New Game Plus mode.
- Choose the Light difficulty preset.
- Pick up the Chainsaw weapon near the Silent Hill Cemetery.
- Remember and reuse codes/solutions for puzzles from your previous playthrough.
How to Unlock the Faster Than Fog Trophy
The best strategy to unlock the Faster Than Fog trophy is to simply play the game on Light difficulty with the Chainsaw equipped. Additionally, it’s best to skip most of the cutscenes in the game, which can add to the overall game time. You can check how much time is exhausted during parts of your playthrough while saving your progress. Additionally, it’s best to skip most of the combat encounters, unless they are absolutely necessary. For boss fights, stick to using the Chainsaw, which deals a ton of damage with every hit and kills most enemies in a few swings.
If you end up spending too long in any particular section of the game, you can always reload your previous manual save. Do note that reloading saves can respawn some enemies that you might’ve already killed in an area. You can pair the Faster Than Fog trophy with others like Radio Silence, As Close As You Like, and I Saw That Town trophies. That way, you can get multiple trophies done under a single playthrough.
