Locator Maps have a pin for visual aid when it comes to traversing biomes; here’s how you can make one in Minecraft.

Minecraft is a survival sandbox title that features a vast world. The world can be so large that you might never see the world border unless you use cheats or command blocks. However, one thing that you can notice while playing Minecraft is the lack of a proper map or minimap, unless you use mods.
To help players chart their way through the world, they can craft maps, or specifically the Locator Map. Here’s an article to help you know everything about a Locator Map in Minecraft, including how to craft it and its uses.

Items Required for a Locator Map in Minecraft

To craft one Locator Map, you need these items:
- 1x Compass
- 8x Paper
And here’s how you get them:
- Compass: To craft a Compass, you need 4x Iron Bar and 1x Redstone Dust. Place the Redstone Dust in the middle of a Crafting Table. Place one Iron Bar each on the top, bottom, left, and right of the Redstone Dust.
- Paper: Making paper is quite easy; you have to place three sugarcane horizontally in a Crafting Table. You can find sugarcane growing beside rivers and lakes.
With the items in your inventory, it is time to craft the Locator Map.

When you have all the items in your inventory, follow these steps to successfully craft a Locator Map:
- Make a Crafting Table and place it on the ground.
- Interact with it to get access to the 3×3 grid.
- Place the Compass in the middle of the grid.
- Lastly, surround the Compass with paper. If you misplaced any items, refer to the image above.
- Drag the Empty Map into your inventory from the output section.
- Take the Empty Map out in your hands by placing it on your hotbar.
- Interact with the Empty Map to fill it up and transform it into a Locator Map.

Uses of a Locator Map in Minecraft

Locator Maps are different from normal maps that you can find in treasure chests or craft in the Bedrock Edition. Locator Maps have a small pin icon that depicts your location on the map. The pin moves as you move, making it an accurate representation of your location. You can even make a Locator Map on the End Islands, which makes traversing that biome significantly easier.
To further utilize a Locator Map, you can upgrade it via the Cartographer Table. Doing so can zoom out the map, which can help you cover more area in a single map.
