Iron Golems are great protectors. Here’s a simple guide on how to make an Iron Golem in Minecraft, including what materials you need.

Iron Golems are very unique mobs that you can find and make in Minecraft. They are neutral mobs who are friendly towards Villagers and attack any hostile mob on sight. Iron Golems are also friendly towards the players, unless you hit them. Hitting Iron Golems provokes them, and they mark you as a hostile entity. They are quite strong, so challenging one isn’t recommended.
Iron Golems naturally spawn in Villages. They act as guardians of the Villagers and protect them from mob attacks. However, you can also make them yourself and keep them as guards for your private base. But how do you make Iron Golems in Minecraft? Here’s a guide to help you out.

Items Required for an Iron Golem in Minecraft

Making an Iron Golem requires you to collect specific blocks that you must place. Here are the ingredients you need:
- 4x Iron Block
- 1x Carved Pumpkin
And here’s how you get these items:
- Iron Block: You get one Iron Block by crafting it in a Crafting Table. You have to place one Iron Bar in all nine slots of the Crafting Table to get one single Iron Block. It takes 36 Iron Bars to make one Iron Golem. We recommend making a good enchanted pickaxe to get the iron faster.
- Carved Pumpkin: You can get a Carved Pumpkin by using shears on an uncarved pumpkin. Pumpkins naturally spawn in many biomes and are found in stacks in some taiga and snowy villages. You can also use Jack o’Lanterns instead of Carved Pumpkins, but they are quite rare between naturally generated pumpkin patches.
Now that we have all the items, we can make ourselves our own Iron Golem in Minecraft.
Making an Iron Golem in Minecraft

Once you have all the necessary items in your inventory, follow these steps to successfully make an Iron Golem:
- Place one Iron Block on the ground. You are going to build up from here.
- Now, place another Iron Block on top of the previous one.
- Next, place one Iron Block on the left and right sides of the upper Iron Block.
- Finally, you can place the Carved Pumpkin on top of the upper-middle Iron Block. This makes it so that the blocks disappear and an Iron Golem spawns in. Additionally, you can refer to the image above in case you misplaced any blocks.
Make sure to build the Iron Golem away from the village, as it will wander slowly towards it. You can also repair your damaged Iron Golem by using Iron Bars.
