Discover how to make End Crystals in Minecraft and use them either for decor or to spawn an Ender Dragon in the End.
End Crystals are usually part of the final boss battle in Minecraft. They are the purple crystals levitating in glass cubes that heal the Ender Dragon from the top of obsidian towers in the End. While they serve a niche purpose in the game, they can be crafted by the player without venturing into the End at all.
Ingredients Needed To Craft End Crystals in Minecraft
To craft an End Crystal, you will need seven glass blocks, one Eye of Ender, and a Ghast Tear.
- Smelt glass blocks from sand in a furnace.
- Craft an Eye of Ender using an Ender Pearl and Blaze Powder.
- Ghasts have a chance to drop Ghast Tears when killed.
Craft End Crystals in Minecraft
To craft an End Crystal, head to a crafting table with all the ingredients. Place an Eye of Ender at the center of the grid and a Ghast Tear below it. Fill the rest of the crafting grid with glass blocks. Collect the End Crystal.
Use End Crystals in Minecraft
End Crystals can only be placed on top of obsidian or bedrock blocks. If you do so in the Overworld or the Nether, the End Crystal’s core will spin as it does in the End, but there will be no fire under it. In the Overworld or the Nether, End Crystals can serve as decorative blocks. They also deal a significant amount of blast damage when destroyed and can be used in PvP.
Spawning the Ender Dragon
Placing End Crystals at the right spots in the End will spawn the Ender Dragon. You may want to do this to experience the boss fight again or to collect the high amount of XP dropped by the Dragon. To revive the Ender Dragon, head over to the exit portal made of bedrock. The exit portal will have three bedrock blocks in a straight line on each side. Place four End Crystals on the middle block of each side of the portal’s frame, opposite the central pillar’s flat surfaces.
The End Crystals you placed will trigger the respawn sequence. Once the Ender Dragon returns, all End Crystals on the obsidian towers will reappear. Once the sequence is complete, the End Crystals you placed will explode. If you place additional End Crystals around the End, they will heal the Ender Dragon for four health points each second. Destroying an End Crystal while the Ender Dragon is healing will deal twenty health points of damage to it.
