Dragon Age: The Veilguard is admittedly one of the biggest releases of 2024, if not the biggest. Not only does it mark the return of one of the most beloved RPG franchises after almost a decade of hiatus, but it’s also the game that marks developer Bioware’s return to their “roots.” The Veilguard is currently available for pre-order on all platforms, and it’s even available to pre-load on some of the systems. Much like publisher EA’s previous titles, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is available to pre-load on Xbox Series X|S consoles, almost two whole weeks ahead of its release.

And unlike some of the recent Xbox first-party titles, a la Senua’s Saga Hellblade 2, Starfield, etc., the pre-load for The Veilguard includes the entire game instead of just a small part of it. Furthermore, while the pre-load isn’t live on PlayStation 5, we do know when it’s going to go live. Here’s everything you need to know about Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s pre-load, file size, and more.

What Is Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s File Size

According to the PC system requirements, Dragon Age: The Veilguard requires roughly 100 gigabytes of storage space. Furthermore, Bioware highly recommends installing the game on an SSD instead of a traditional HDD. Based on the Xbox pre-load, the game’s download size is roughly 92.70 GB. While the file size on PC might be a bit higher, on PS5, it probably will be the same as the Xbox Series X|S version. Also, it seems the cosmetics DLCs that come as part of the game’s pre-order and Deluxe Edition incentives aren’t a separate download.

While The Veilguard doesn’t come close to something like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, or Forza Horizon 5 in terms of its file size, it’s still a pretty big download. As such, if you’re on a slower internet connection, it’s probably best to pre-load the game to avoid having to wait for hours to download the title on release.

How To Pre-Load Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is currently available to pre-load on Xbox Series X|S. On PlayStation 5, the game will be available to pre-download on October 29, 2024, at midnight local time. On PC, Bioware has not revealed any pre-load specifics. However, on Steam, most games are available to pre-load roughly 24 hours prior to release. That being said, here’s how you can pre-load The Veilguard on all platforms once it goes live:

Xbox Series X|S

  • On your Xbox Series X|S, head to your Xbox Library via the dashboard (make sure you have the game pre-ordered on the same Xbox account).
  • Search for the game from the list of titles and press Pre-download.
  • Once the pre-load is complete, all you need to do is wait for the midnight release to start playing.

PlayStation 5

  • Once you have pre-ordered the game on your PS5, head to your PlayStation Library.
  • Search for the game within your PSN Library, and select Download.
  • Once the download is complete, you can start playing the game as soon as it releases, i.e., midnight local time.

Windows PC (Steam)

  • After you’ve pre-ordered the game on your Steam account, head to your Steam library.
  • Look for the game in the library, and click on Pre-load.
  • Once the download concludes, you only need to wait until the game’s release date for it to be playable on your PC.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard PC System Requirements

Apart from the pre-load details, Bioware has also revealed the PC system requirements for their upcoming RPG. And judging from the minimum and recommended CPU and GPU combo, The Veilguard does seem to be fairly well optimized for PC. That said, here’s a look at the official system requirements for Dragon Age: The Veilguard:
