You can enjoy every region in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Here’s a guide on how you can do it and the carious ways you can travel.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the sequel to Final Fantasy 7 Remake, introduces an expansive open world that allows everyone to play in multiple regions. Unlike the linear progression of the first game, Rebirth encourages you to revisit previously explored areas due to its open-world nature and rewards you with new quests, items, and secrets.
Therefore, sometimes players will want to revisit a location to see if they can uncover new secrets or collect treasures they might have missed. The game is designed with exploration and backtracking in mind, so you can return to earlier areas to finish side quests, collect items, or just explore. Here’s how you can do it.
How To Fast Travel in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth gives plenty of reasons and options to go back to previous regions. But when and how these options become available to you can be a bit tricky to understand at first. Here’s a detailed guide on how to revisit earlier regions to save you time and effort.
Simply Walking Back
You can choose to simply walk back between some regions. This method is particularly not recommended as this can take a long time and a high amount of effort. But this can be perfect if you don’t mind looking for treasures and some combat along the way. There are far more efficient methods that you can take but this one is available right from the get-go.
Unlocking and Using Chocobo
Chocobo stops can be used right from Chapter 2 after you wrangle a Chocobo by yourself. After you repair the Chocobo stop, you can use them to fast travel between other stops, and also restore HP and MP.
The Chocobos aren’t just for show either; you can use the Chocobo stops to summon your feathered buddy to revisit locations that you cannot reach with fast travel. Even traveling to other regions is possible using the Chocobo Carriage after completing the “Stuck in a Rut” quest in the Junon region.
Using Various Vehicles
Not every area in Final Fantasy 7 can be revisited directly through fast travel or Chocobo. In many cases, you will need to travel manually.
- Buggy: The buggy becomes available in Chapter 9 and allows you to traverse regions faster. It’s especially helpful for crossing deserts or plains that would otherwise take forever on foot. On the plus side, you can always enjoy the scenic route on the way.
- Airship: Much later in the game, around Chapter 14, you’ll unlock an airship that makes long-distance travel much easier. With the airship, you can quickly revisit regions that were previously difficult to reach. This method will require a good amount of Gils on hand which is your primary currency in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Using the World Map
Fast travel via the world map is unlocked after you progress far enough into the main story, typically around when the game opens up more fully. You will gain access to the map and the ability to select previously visited locations.
To use the fast travel feature:
- Open the map from the menu.
- Select any region or location you have been to before.
- Confirm the location to travel instantly.
This method is perfect for returning to major hubs, like towns or camps, but keep in mind that not all areas are immediately available via fast travel. Some smaller or story-specific locations might still require manual travel.
Beware of Locking Yourself Out of Returning
In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, there will be certain points in the main story where you won’t be able to go back to previous regions for a while. One such big moment happens after Chapter 12 when you board the ship to head north. Once you do this, it is a point of no return, and you will be locked out from backtracking until you have completed the main storyline.
The good news is that after you finish the game, the chapter select feature becomes available. This will let you go back to earlier chapters and revisit any areas or quests you didn’t get to do before.
